RECRUITING: Austin receiver likes five early

Austin, Texas wide receiver Fred Strong names his top five and talks about his interest in Oklahoma

FRED STRONG, WR, 6'3, 190, 4.4, AUSTIN, TEXAS:

Fred Strong is another big, strong wide receiver that college coaches love. He has the size and speed that all colleges look for. A two-year starter, Strong caught 34 passes for 770 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior. Strong also returned kicks for the Maroons. As a sophomore, Strong caught 19 passes for an amazing 630 yards and five touchdowns.

Strong can bench 220, squats 305 and he has a 31-inch vertical jump. Strong starts in hoops and averages 10 points and four rebounds per game. In track, Strong runs the 100M (10.6) and the second leg in the sprint relay. Strong is already drawing a number of looks from colleges all over the country, but he has already narrowed down his list of schools.

"I like Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and TCU at this point," said Strong. "Oklahoma was the first school that offered me and that meant a lot to me. I like them a lot. They are a great team and I certainly wouldn't mind being a Sooner. Living in Austin I have always rooted for Texas and I guess that would make it kind of strange signing with OU. However, I could sign with OU and that would be the way it goes. I am a little disappointed that Texas hasn't offered me and if they do they will be tough to turn down, but if they don't then I am going to look hard at Oklahoma and maybe even some other schools."

Strong went to the Texas summer camp last year and plans to go back this year.

"I also hope to go to OU's camp this summer," said Strong.
