Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 18

Sooners Illustrated presents the fifth day of the countdown right now.

No. 18:

Player: Gabe Lynn

Position: Backup field cornerback

The rundown: Lynn's quick, has a good frame for a defensive back at 6-foot, 189 lb., and his technique will be better now that's he's redshirted for a season. He came out of high school as the No. 1 cornerback and 20th ranked player overall in the recruiting class.

Expectations for 2010: The safety position seems pretty solidified with Sam Proctor and Quinton Carter, but the cornerback position is a point of concern leading up into the season. That's not to say the guys that are listed as the starters on the latest depth chart, Demontre Hurst and Jonathan Nelson, won't be effective, but Lynn can definitely compete at the field corner spot with Hurst.
