Here's a few items to note about the defense:
Much has been said about the importance of defensive tackle Adrian Taylor's health, but backup defensive lineman Casey Walker spoke for the rest of the group when he said they'll step it up if necessary if Taylor is still not 100 percent.
Linebacker Ronnell Lewis continues to work both at strong side LB as well as on the line at defensive end. At the end spot, there are really five guys competing, including starters Jeremy Beal and Frank Alexander, as well as David King, Pryce Macon and Lewis. Said defensive ends coach Bobby Jack Wright: "It's remarkable the amount of progress the D-line has made."
Defensive backs coach Willie Martinez said that group is coming along but that there are some growing pains with some of the younger guys that are more inexperienced. However, the ability of Jonathan Nelson to play both at safety and corner is a huge plus.
Defensive coordinator Brent Venables said the entire defense has moved at a good pace: "I think things are going on schedule. We're still installing the defense. We have yet to complete that installation."
The Sooners get back on the field tomorrow, and the offense will once again meet with the media then, so stay tuned.
