Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 11

Sooners Illustrated now presents the first part of the top half of the defensive countdown.

No. 11:

Player: Sam Proctor

Position: Starting strong safety

The rundown: Proctor's one of three players in the secondary that has a good amount of game experience. In fact, although many expected him to be a starter a little earlier in his career, he did break into that role for 10 games last season. He racked up 44 tackles, 30 more than the previous season, and had one tackle for loss to go along with a couple passes broken up.

Expectations for 2010: He really is a pivotal piece to just how good this secondary is. With Preseason All-Big 12 free safety Quinton Carter as his sidekick at the safety position, it's important that Proctor performs at strong safety to solidify the group. Proctor must have a more productive year than 2009 to propel this very important part of the defense.
