Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 6

Sooners Illustrated presents the next part of the countdown.

No. 6:

Player: Ronnell Lewis

Position: Starting strong side linebacker

The rundown: Lewis made a living last year on special teams, as he tied fellow linebacker Austin Box with 11 tackles in that part of the game. Overall, he finished with 22 tackles and 2.5 sacks for a loss of seven yards. He also forced a pair of fumbles, recovered one and batted down a pass throughout 13 games, one of which he started.

Expectations for 2010: Get ready for "The Hammer" to lay the wood on opposing running backs and wide receivers in every game this fall. Defensive coordinator Brent Venables has already went so far to say that Lewis is the most violent hitter he's ever coached. Opposite leader and weak side linebacker Travis Lewis, Ronnell will stabilize the linebackers with steady production on his side.
