Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 5

Welcome into the top five of the defensive countdown.

No. 5:

Player: Frank Alexander

Position: Starting defensive end

The rundown: Alexander's one of two very experienced defensive ends the Sooners have this year. He finished tied for fifth on the team last year with seven tackles for loss and made his way into the starting spot after Auston English went down. Prior to that, he worked in a three-man rotation, including the two of them along with Jeremy Beal. Alexander ended the season with 24 total tackles and played in every game.

Expectations for 2010: He'll be a force, plain and simple, if he stays healthy. Don't expect many mental mistakes or such from Alexander, and plan for quarterbacks having to leave the pocket often because of his presence up front on the defensive line. The Sooners really have a great player here in Alexander, and that's why he's in the top five.
