Ranking the Most Important on Defense: No. 3

Check out the latest version of the defensive countdown.

No. 3:

Player: Quinton Carter

Position: Starting free safety

The rundown: Carter is the second of two senior starting defensive backs. He finished second on the team with 88 tackles last year and tied cornerback Brian Jackson for the lead in interceptions with four. Along with that, he had 2.5 tackles for loss, five passes broken up and a fumble recovery, so he was certainly a mainstay in the Sooner secondary.

Expectations for 2010: He's a ballhawking safety and is the most important player as to whether or not the secondary plays up to its potential. He will have to bring along some of the youngsters that are around him, which he already appears to be doing. Individually, look for this Preseason All-Big 12 defensive back to have a year similar in production to 2009 and more than likely better.
