Sooners slam Tech, advance to Big 12 title game

Oklahoma's Johnnie Gilbert dunks against Texas Tech in the first half of the Sooners' 67-60 win over the Red Raiders in the Big 12 Semifinals Saturday in Dallas. Oklahoma will play Missouri for the tournament title on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.

DALLAS, Texas — In perhaps the biggest game of the year and a possible third straight tournament title and No. 1 seed on the line, Oklahoma's seniors stepped up.

Seniors Hollis Price and Ebi Ere scored 26 and 17 points respectively as Oklahoma advanced to the Big 12 Tournament Championship game with a 67-60 overtime win over Texas Tech on Saturday. Senior guard Quannas White added 11.

"(The seniors) were big tonight," said junior center Jabahri Brown. "If we had lost tonight, this would've been the last Big 12 game for the seniors, so we all had to step up and follow them."

Price was the Sooners' top gun once again, but it was Ere who nearly stole the show and helped Oklahoma get into Sunday's title game. Ere, who suffered a broken bone in his left wrist on Tuesday, showed no signs of being injured on this day. Ere got the Sooners started in overtime with a three-pointer and then added a clutch free throw to put OU up four and seal the win late in the game

"I'm probably more proud of Ebi now than at anytime since he's been here," said Oklahoma Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, on his senior guards' performance.

The Sooners will play Missouri in Sunday's title game. The Tigers beat Oklahoma earlier this year, 67-52, on February 26 in Columbia. Missouri advanced to the title game on Saturday by beating top-seeded Kansas, 68-63.

"Missouri did a great job down there and we didn't come to play down there in Missouri. Now we know what we have in front of us and we have to go out there and give it our all and just play Sooner basketball."

"We're the defending champs and I think it's real important to repeat and we really want to win," said senior guard Quannas White, on the possibility of OU winning their third straight conference tournament title. "This is the Big 12 championship and there is nothing more important at this time. We just have to stay focused, we won this game and we have to put it behind us and look forward to the next game."

Tip-off for Sunday's title game is set for 2 p.m and will be broadcast nationally by ESPN.
