Opportunity Ahead

Ole Miss safety Denzel Nkemdiche readily admits his freshman season was difficult. He expected to contribute. Instead, he was redshirted.

However, now under new head coach Hugh Freeze, Nkemdiche is being given an opportunity. He's rotated in and out of the starting lineup through four practices this spring, from the hybrid "Husky" position, to free safety.

"Now, knowing I'm going to have a huge role, it feels good," he said. "It keeps me going, keeps my energy high, gives me energy when I wake up in the morning."

Nkemdiche is a popular player amongst Ole Miss fans. He has over 1,000 followers on Twitter (@denzelnkemdiche), the popular social media website. And he can't go anywhere on campus without being asked of his brother Robert, the top overall recruit for the class of 2013.

Nkemdiche talked with Ben Garrett of Scout.com following practice Tuesday, covering a range of topics, from his brother to his increased role with the team both on and off the field.
