The Rebels had their chances, and so did the Tigers. It was Memphis that took advantage of them.
"Just too many chances to extend the lead and don't," Bianco said. "You put yourself in that position, and we need a hero. They had a lot of heroes there at the end."
Bianco seemingly remembered them all.
"They had (T.J.) Rich get the big base hit with bases loaded. They had (Tucker) Tubbs who came off the bench and hit a double. They had (Jacob) Wilson that hits the big home run. Their relief pitcher comes in with first and third with one out and induces a double play. Their short stop makes a great play up the middle. This is not taking anything away from them. It's explaining they won. They did what they had to do to win the game.
"They made plays. They made pitches. And they had great at-bats. And we just didn't do that."
Memphis improved to 18-23, while Ole Miss fell to 27-14.
Tanner Bailey pitched four perfect innings to start the game, facing 12 as nobody reached. But that was as far as he went.
"He was about 60 pitches, and he's never thrown that many pitches (at Ole Miss)," Bianco said. "If we're going to have a chance to use him on the weekend, that was enough."
The Rebels play at Mississippi State Friday through Sunday.
Bailey said he knew he wouldn't pitch much more than he did, if that.
"I kind of figured I wasn't going to last too long," Bailey said referring to the fourth inning which he completed. "It felt great to go out there, make pitches, and get outs."
Memphis finally got its first hit of the game in the seventh inning as the Tigers put together the first rally of the night. The game was 2-2 when the Tigers took the lead in the eighth on a two-run homer by Wilson.
Ole Miss, down 4-2 in the top of the ninth, had runners at the corners with one out. But Auston Bousfield hit into a double play that ended it.
"We've got to figure out how to finish it," Bianco said. "It's disappointing to be that close."
