The Winning Run

Lance Wilson arrived at Ole Miss last summer as part of the incoming class of baseball players. Since then, he's relished every opportunity he's gotten.

On Sunday, that opportunity came in the form of pinch-running for Sikes Orvis in the 11th inning of the series finale between Ole Miss and Alabama.

The Rebels had already won games one and two to claim the series. They needed the Sunday win to not only sweep but also to move up the Southeastern Conference standings.

Orvis had singled to get aboard; Wilson came in to run. Cameron Dishon then got a base hit to move Wilson to second. Preston Overbey walked and Wilson moved to third. After Will Jamison struck out, Tanner Mathis singled to score Wilson. And that was the ballgame.

Wilson's cousin, John Parker Wilson, quarterbacked the Alabama football team. Another cousin, Ross Wilson, played baseball at Alabama.

Lance, a Tuscaloosa, Ala., native, said his family has been supportive of him and the Rebels this season, and some of them were at the games this weekend. Here's more of what Lance had to say immediately after the game Sunday.
