Walls a Rebel

Fred Walls said a lot of colleges had approached him about playing football with them after his high school career at Olive Branch is completed after next season.

But the rising senior opted to go with the first school that offered him a scholarship - Ole Miss.

"Mississippi State, LSU, Georgia, Iowa, Nebraska, Indiana, N.C. State, Missouri and Duke have all been after me, but I was waiting on an offer from Ole Miss," said Walls, a 6-1, 220-pounder who made 6A First-Team All-State this season after leading his team with a 119 tackles. "I'm real excited they decided to pull the trigger on me. I am relieved. Now I can concentrate on getting better and having a great senior season."

Walls said his strength as a football player is his speed and tenacity.

"I have been timed in a 4.5 40 before and I love the game. I love the contact," he stated.

And, apparently, he loves Ole Miss.

"Ole Miss is a great school. It's like a big family down there," he noted. "They have a lot of good coaches who are not only good at what they do, but they care about their players.

"I've talked to a lot of players down there and they love being there and love playing for their coaches. That's the atmosphere I wanted."

Walls' goals for the immediate future?

"I want to be a part of a state championship team and I want to work hard to get bigger, faster and stronger. My grades are good and I will keep those up," he closed.
