D.J.'s Law

Ole Miss is bringing in Haines City, Fla., athlete Dacorius Law for an official visit this weekend. His coach, Ron Johnson, says D.J. "is the real deal."

Haines City (Fla.) Coach Ron Johnson doesn't mince words when it comes to his star player, Dacorius "D.J." Law.

"I've never seen anything like him in my life athletically," said Johnson. "He has God-given talents he had to have been born with. He's very strong, he's very fast and he can jump out of a gym. He's as explosive as any player I've ever coached."

And Johnson has coached some good ones in his time. . .

"I coached Jason Pierre-Paul of the Giants and he's a freak. D.J. is better," said Johnson. "He's the best athlete I've ever coached.

"If he chooses Ole Miss, they want to play him at cornerback. I think he's another Deion Sanders and I don't say that lightly or without comparison.

"We played him all over the field, at every skill position, and he was great at all of them. He's just a natural athlete."

The 6-0, 195-pound Law is also on several schools' most-wanted list as well.

"He's got a lot of offers. Ohio State, Michigan State, West Virginia, Tennessee and several more," Johnson continued. "That's what you would expect from the Polk County Player of the Year."

Johnson took over a losing program at Haines City last year, guiding them from a one-win team to a 7-3 record.

"D.J. was my leader. He was the guy. He understands rebuilding and likes to be a part of that. That's why I think Ole Miss is a good fit for him," noted Johnson. "He wants to be a part of a rebuild. He likes those kinds of challenges."

Speed is Law's "thing," according to Johnson.

"D.J. is a 4.4 guy right now, but with some good training, I think he'll be in the 4.3s quickly," Johnson, whose 7A team competed in the second-highest classification in Florida prep ranks, evaluated. "He hasn't tapped into his potential. You get him in a structured environment and he will just blossom. The sky is the limit for him."

Life without Law will be tough for Johnson, but he believes he has an excellent team coming back.

"I'll miss D.J. for sure, but he helped start something here that has gained a lot of traction and has a solid foundation," he closed.

Law is set to visit Ole Miss this weekend.
