Recruiting Competition: While many tried to get in the game with C.J., when rubber hit the road, it was all about Ole Miss and Alabama. Alabama was attractive in many ways to the Meridian native, but in the end, the Rebels held off the Crimson Tide and C.J. enrolled in January at Ole Miss.
Quotable: "I am staying with family. Ole Miss is where I want to be. It's always been my dream school, so once they put the offer down on the table, I pretty much jumped on it. I knew that's where I wanted to be, so I went ahead and made a verbal. We are going to build something special at Ole Miss, I'm sure ot it."
Scouting Report: Since C.J. enrolled at Ole Miss mid-year, Rebel Strength & Conditioning Coach Paul Jackson has had a couple of weeks to work with the talented youngster in the weight room and in speed drills. "C.J. has really good movement," said Jackson. "His hips, ankle and knee movement is very flexible and he cuts and changes directions fluidly. I also like that C.J. is mature in the weight room. By that I mean he comes to work and is all business and, with his Dad being a coach, he understands proper lift technique. He is not your typical freshman in that regard. I am totally pleased with him to this point."
Meridian Coach Larry Weems: "When C.J. was a sophomore, I sat him down and told him he was not ever going to play on the next level if he did not improve his speed. Being the kind of kid he is, he did just that. He worked his tail off to get bigger, stronger and faster. He has a great attitude, great discipline and a fantastic work ethic. He committed himself to being a college prospect and he made it happen. He will commit himself to being a good college player and it will happen."
Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: "We believe C.J. will bring the all-around safety skills, including excellent skills in coverage, that you need to win in the SEC. He's a great kid who wants to be the best he can be and he brings a particular skill set to our secondary that is exciting. I am anxious to see him put on the pads on this level and develop. I am also very pleased that he entrusted his football future with us when he had so many other options. He literally could have gone anywhere, but he chose us."
