Accolades: Signed with Ole Miss and enrolled in classes in January 2014 ... HIGH SCHOOL: Consensus 3-star recruit ... Had 16 sacks, nine forced fumbles and an interception at Fork Union ... Originally part of North Carolina's 2013 signing class ... Played his high school ball at University Christian School, where he led his team to the Florida 2A state title as a senior. . . . Also a tremendous track athlete with a 6-10 high jump and second place finish in the 100-yard dash to his credit.

Recruiting Competition: Haynes' route to Ole Miss has been a long one. Back in 2013, he committed to Louisville. Then he switched to North Carolina, but on his way to Tar Heel country, he was denied admission to UNC although he was declared a full qualifier. His detour led him to Fork Union Military Academy. His desire was to continue pursuing acceptance into UNC, but it never happened, opening up his recruitment. Ole Miss got a tip he would be available, watched some film and opted to go on him. Great find!

Quotable: "I like everything about Ole Miss, everything. I am really pumped up. It reminds me of North Carolina in a lot of ways. If Ole Miss had recruited me out of high school, I probably would have gone there. It feels like home. I like the coaches and the facilities and everything going on there. This was not a hard decision for me. I need to get bigger - I'd like to weigh about 240 for next season," he closed. "I also need to learn better technique and how to use my hands better, but that will come with Coach (Chris) Kiffin and the individual attention I will get at practice."

Scouting Report: Another mid-year enrollee who Ole Miss Strength & Conditioning Coach Paul Jackson has been able to work with prior to the deadline for this issue of the magazine. "Marquis is a rare, exceptional athlete. He's tall, he's got zero body fat, he's fast and he can jump out of the building," said Jackson. "He's raw, but from a pure athletic standpoint, we don't have many like him. I can see him being a 240-pound linebacker or a tremendous rush end. He runs like a safety. I am excited to be able to work with him and see how he develops."

Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: "The term ‘freak' when it comes to describing athletes is probably a little overused, but Marquis has the qualities and abilities associated with the term. A 6-10 high jumper, a 22-7 long jumper, a sprinter in high school and all of that in a 6-3 frame. We think the sky is the limit for him and we feel very blessed to have him on board. Coach Jackson's comments to me thus far have been very positive with his approach to things. We know we have this big ball of unlimited potential and we are excited to develop it."
