Accolades: HIGH SCHOOL: A 3-star prospect by … Missed his senior season with a torn ACL …Prior to his season-ending injury, Putman was being heavily recruited by other SEC schools, most notably Mississippi State and Auburn. . . Coached in high school by Matt Wallace … Also played basketball at DeSoto Central.

Recruiting Competition: Tyler was getting a lot of attention primarily from three schools – Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Auburn. Then, the hammer fell when he suffered a knee injury. Ole Miss stood tall with him and still wanted him regardless. He committed in February of 2013. The hammer fell again – another knee injury his senior year. Still Ole Miss held firm. Tyler appreciated that loyalty and was an active recruiter for the Rebels right up to signing day.

Quotable: ""I just like what they've done with the program. (Ole Miss offensive line) Coach (Matt) Luke was on me heavy with the recruiting and stuff. I like Coach Freeze. He's a good coach. He makes a big deal about family and stuff. He proved that to me when he stuck with me through my second knee injury. Some coaches who were recruiting me disappeared after that happened, but not Coach Freeze or Coach Luke. I knew I had made the right decision when all of that went down."

Scouting Report: Tyler has all the tools Hugh Freeze and Offensive Line Coach are looking for to fit into the Ole Miss system on the OL. He's athletic, rangy and has excellent mobility. Obviously, the task now is to get his knees healthy and come back bigger and stronger than ever. Overcoming one knee injury is tough. Overcoming two will be even harder, but the Ole Miss coaches see enough potential in Putman to take that chance. The rest is in Putman's court.

DeSoto Central Coach Matt Wallace: "Being a basketball player, Tyler has great feet. He's very athletic and he works hard to hone his craft. It is my opinion that if he had not gotten hurt, he would have been a national recruit on the same level as Callaway's Rod Taylor. I believe in him. I like Ole Miss' plan for him to greyshirt and give him essentially an extra year to get back healthy and get bigger and stronger. I also appreciate the way Ole Miss recruited him – being honest with him the whole way and sticking with him the whole way."

Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: "Tyler is a great kid who has a world of potential. We never thought twice about staying with him through his injuries. We are going to give him a little extra time with the greyshirt option to get ready, but we fully believe he will come back strong and be the kind of player we thought he could be when we first evaluated him. He's athletic, he has great feet and he has the right attitude about football and his future."
