Recruiting Competition: Williams had a lot of offers but narrowed his list down quickly. There was strong early interest, and offers from, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Tennessee and Ole Miss, but he narrowed to the Rebels and Volunteers quickly. Back in August, prior to his senior season, he pulled the trigger prior to his senior season.
Quotable: ""I just love everything about Ole Miss, really. My mom did too. It just has everything I was looking for from an academic support standpoint, coaches, players, campus and I really like the direction that the program is headed. I really like the direction that coach (Hugh) Freeze is taking the program and that was important to me. Plus, they were the first school to offer me and that really meant a lot to me. I've had them on my mind ever since. They want me to play nose guard like I do for our team. It would be an easy transition for me. They want me to be a run stopper and not a pass rusher. They think I'm really good at stuffing the run. They like the way I use my hands and pursue the ball to the backfield. I have a real good get-off."
Scouting Report: Chris is what is known in the trade as a disruptor. He's not a great pass rusher, per say, but he has great lateral movement, good quickness off the ball and he stops the run from tackle to tackle. A prototypical noseguard. At 6-1, he is a shade shorter than ideal, but he makes up for it by playing with good leverage and with a high motor. Chris and 2013 signee Herbert Moore have a lot in common and could be an effective one-two punch in the future at the NG slot for the Rebels.
Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: "We liked how Chris made things happen across the front. He showed the kind of skill we are looking for in a run-stopper. He's tenacious, strong, he uses his hands well and he's disruptive with penetration against the run. We will work with him on some pass-rush techniques and get that part of his game up to pay. We think we have a diamond in the rough with him in the middle of our DL."
