Recruiting Competition: When Chad came out of East Mississippi Community College, several schools were after him, but he limited his visits to Ole Miss and Indiana, despite offers from Virginia Tech and LSU.
EMCC OC Marcus Wood: "Chad took over the huddle and really pushed the tempo game. He knew exactly what we wanted as coaches and delivered. His football savvy is off the charts. You tell him something once and he's got it. He's really special in the mental side of the game. As for his physical skills, all I can say is that he's got an outstanding arm and can make all the throws and he is really, really good running the ball. I'm telling you - he is a special talent.”
Scouting Report: Kelly is an accomplished thrower who has the ability to put the ball in to a tight window. He makes quick and decisive decisions with the football and helped lead his team to a No. 1 ranking and JuCo National Championship, so that speaks to the level of player that he is. He can run and command the spread style offense and runs well enough to be a an option threat. Could come in and grab a hold of an offense early on. Arm strength, field awareness and competent mobility are his strengths.
Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: “We needed another quarterback to come in this spring and compete for the job. Chad has all the credentials and we really like the way he plays the game in a similar offense as we run at Ole Miss. He’s got a strong, accurate arm, good field savvy and he’s a better runner than he’s known for.”
