Recruiting Competition: Jalen had offers from all over before finally choosing Ole Miss. Make a list of who’s who in college football and many of those were on there. Auburn, Florida, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon State, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Wisconsin were among those who coveted Julius. He noted Ole Miss, Louisville, and the Fighting Irish were his finalists.
Quotable: “I went on all of the trips by myself. My folks said the decision is solely based on me. The trip to Ole Miss went real good. It was a great experience, actually. I got to meet all of the players and got to know each one of them better. That is really what I wanted to look at on all of my visits. How well would I fit in with their players and what's their relationship with the coaches? I found out from the players that you are really going to spend the majority of your time with your position coach more than anything. They are all like brothers. I spent a lot of time with Coach (Grant) Heard who is their receiver coach. He's real cool. He's not one of those coaches that yells and cusses at you. My relationship with the players stood out to me. I like how they treat one another. Everybody is real cool with one another."
Scouting Report: Jalen was recruited by many high-profile schools because of his athletic ability, speed, hands, and feet. He is the entire package. He was considered by some equally impressive as a defensive player in the secondary as a wide receiver on offense. Ole Miss obviously projects him on the offensive side of the ball, another excellent addition to a strong receiver corps to compete and battle in the Southeastern Conference and beyond.
Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: “We are excited to have a speedster and a young player who is so versatile. We believe he can return kickoffs and punts, play in the slot or even play cornerback. We like his potential.”
