Cal commit is hearing from Ole Miss, others

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Florence, Miss., OL Gentle Williams has been committed to Cal since August. But an in-state school, Ole Miss, has emerged in his recruitment. Williams sat down with Yancy Porter during MS-AL All-Star week to discuss.

On the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Game:

“I really just want to come out here and have fun and see where I am against all the good talent. I feel like this might be a little bit harder than the regular season. Everyone here is an all-star either in Mississippi or Alabama.”

On competing against the likes of Jeffery Simmons, Benito Jones and others:

“I feel like it’s going to make me stronger as a player. If you get beat, you get back up and get a win.”

On what position he anticipates playing:

“I’m probably going to end up playing guard.”

On recent contact with Ole Miss:

“(Ole Miss offensive line) coach (Matt) Luke came to my house for a visit not too long ago and told me his plan and everything, what he wants to do. He wants to (set up an official visit) sometime in January. They’re a whole lot closer to home than Cal, but I like coach Luke. He’s a pretty good coach and makes you feel comfortable.”

On what else he likes about Ole Miss:

“The business program there is pretty good.”

On what he likes about Cal, the school he’s committed to:

“As of right now, that’s my best offer. I went with what’s best for me and what could be the best for me for right now.”

On the schools he’s hearing from:

“The same ones that I have offers from, Southern Miss and whatnot. Southern, Cal and Ole Miss.”
