Saahdiq Charles made his second trip to Ole Miss this past Saturday.
"I came up there for a camp last summer," Charles said before he checked in for the OM Junior Day. "This is my first time to really get to see everything."
What did he want to get out of the latest Ole Miss trip?
"I want to get closer to the coaches. Coaches Luke and Freeze, and get to know Ole Miss football a little better, really."
Charles attended the Ole Miss camp last summer but worked at a position he is not being recruited to play.
"Last time I worked as a defensive lineman. It's going to be a little bit different than working as an offensive lineman. The bigger programs are looking at me more as an offensive lineman. The smaller ones are telling me I can play either way. It just depends on where I want to play."
What do the schools like about Charles on the offensive line?
"My athleticism and speed compared to other offensive linemen."
What has Saahdiq learned about the Rebels during the recruiting process so far?
"They are real personable. I like that about them, and they want the best for you."
Who are the other colleges involved?
"LSU, MSU, Ole Miss, and Memphis. I hear from LSU, MSU and Memphis the most right now."
Who all has offered?
"Mississippi State, Memphis, and USM. Those are the big programs that have offered me so far."
Which schools has the MRA product visited so far?
"My first visit after Christmas was Memphis. I went to (Mississippi) State after that. I'm about to start going around and see some more schools. I go to LSU and Houston next and maybe Southern Miss."
What does State like about Charles?
"Just my athleticism. Coach (John) Hevesy has been staying in touch."
There has been speculation that the 6-foot-5, 315-pound lineman is leaning towards MSU. Are there any natural ties?
"Natural ties? My cousin played for them. Some of my MRA teammates play for them, but I don't know if they are leading. I don't know."
What stands out about the Dogs?
"It's kind of more like a family environment."
What stands out about LSU?
"Well I'm from Louisiana. All of my family is there. They are from New Orleans. I grew up a LSU fan. They want me to come in and play offensive line and I have a bright future there. I just want to see if they offer me or not.
