Ole Miss signee aiming for qualifying ACT score

Tariqious Tisdale was hopeful to report with the majority of the rest of his signing class at Ole Miss on May 28th, but he still has to achieve a qualifying score on the ACT before he can begin his Rebel career.

"I'm taking the ACT test again on June 10th" Tisdale said. "If all goes well I'll report to Ole Miss on June 23rd. I have been taking some classes to help prepare me for the test. Hopefully I can get it done this time. I'm just barely short right now."

He is more nervous or anxious for the next test?

"I'm anxious, really. I'm just ready to start playing football, to be honest. I'm just ready to put the pads on again."

This offseason Tisdale has hit another growth spurt.

"I'm right at 6-foot-6, 270 pounds right now. I've grown some since the season. I've grown about another inch and put on about 20 pounds."

The Rebels had visions of Tisdale playing middle linebacker in their defense but the growth spurt might alter those plans.

"My best position in high school was defensive tackle. I'll see what's going to happen when I get to Ole Miss. I spoke to coach (Maurice) Harris the other day. He told me that I might have grown into a defensive lineman now, but they were still holding out hope I could play some linebacker for them."

Ole Miss sent him a workout book to keep up with during the offseason and so far it is paying dividends.

"I've increased my bench to 375 pounds. I'm squatting around 500 pounds. I've gotten a lot stronger this offseason. I started on Ole Miss' plan right after signing day. They just told me to come in the best shape of my life and ready to compete for a job."

Tariqious was named the Region 7(4A) Defensive Lineman of the Year this season after collecting 65 tackles and 12 sacks while playing defensive tackle.

"I'm fast off of the ball and play with good technique. I'm really athletic for a defensive lineman. I can run like a linebacker and have the size of a defensive lineman. That's why Ole Miss liked me so much."

What made Ole Miss the best fit for Tisdale?

"It was really the way they treated me and my family, especially my mother, during the whole recruiting process. It's close to home too. When I went on my official visit I knew I had made the right choice. It feels like home away from home."
