"I had a real good showing at the (USM) camp," Hamilton said. "I checked in at 5-foot-11, 170 and rarn a 4.36 forty on the laser and had a 3.96 short shuttle. I jumped 11-feet in the broad jump and had a 42" vertical."
An offer from Southern Miss followed.
"They offered me after the camp. I talked to their running back coach who use to be their defensive back coach. He told me he had been following me since this spring. He wanted me to come up to their camp to see what I could do. I guess they liked me so they offered me after their camp."
The next week the Rebels came calling.
"Monday around noon coach (Jason) Jones got in contact with me and offered. They said they liked my style of play. They like how physical I play and my work ethic. Of course they said they were impressed with my numbers from the (USM) camp."
One of Ole Miss' all time greats, Donte Moncrief, happens to be Hamilton's cousin.
"I followed Ole Miss growing up because of Donte. I actually went to one of their bowl games to see him play. That's when I really started following Ole Miss. I love how they play defense. They fly around and have fun out there. I would love to play in the Landshark defense one day. Their coaches are working to get me up there for a visit. I've never been on their campus so I want to go check it out."
When will that visit take place?
"I don't know. My schedule is tight so it's not set yet. We have already started practice. They start practice in a week or so. They are trying to match up my practice schedule to theirs so I can get up there and see them practice."
What does he want to find out about the Rebels when he goes on the visit?
"Academically I want to see what type of programs they have. But most importantly I want to see about their depth chart. I graduate in December so I need to find out who all they have coming back next season and who all is graduating. I only have two years to play D1 ball so I'm looking to come in and play right away."
Wherever Javien lands he feels he brings a unique skill set to the table.
"I'm a physical corner who can really run. I like to play press but I can play off man too. I'm a real versatile cornerback that can do anything you need me to do out there on the field. I like to think of myself as a shut down cornerback."
