DE Markel Winters and Jones CC were defeated by East Central 37-24 last Thursday to pushed their record to 4-2. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end had four tackles, two sacks and one tackle for a loss. Through six games Markel now has 15 tackles, eight and half sacks, six tackles for a loss and a pass deflection. The Floridian is expected to graduate in December with 3 1/2 to play 2.
Javien Hamilton had another solid effort for Jones CC last night. He totaled six tackles and forced a fumble in their 37-24 loss to East Central CC. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound cornerback has 12 tackles, one interception, one forced fumble and two pass deflections this season. He is expected to to graduate in December with 3 1/2 to play 2.
Jay Johnson helped East MS CC to a shootout win over Homes CC last night by the score of 63-49. The redshirt freshman collected five tackles in the game. Through six games the former Ole Miss signee has 18 tackles, three sacks, 5.5 tackles for a loss and two pass breakups. The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder is playing middle linebacker this season. The former Bruce native was a Dandy Dozen selection as a senior and signed with Ole Miss before enrolling with East Mississippi CC in the spring of 2015. Jay is expected to graduate in December with 41/2 to play 3.
Alex Faniel twisted an ankle and missed the last two games. He is expected to return in tonight's game. The 6-foot-6, 225-pound signal caller was 807 passing yards and six touchdowns through five games. He also has 238 yards rushing and five touchdowns. Alex is on track to graduate in December with 5 1/2 to play.
D.D. Bowie moved to quarterback for Morton three games back and helped them to a 42-10 win over St. Andrews. Scout's No. 94 overall rated player rushed for 174 yards and passed for 95 yards with five touchdowns last Friday. Bowie is averaging over 14 yards a carry this season with 130 carries for 1, 547 yards and 24 touchdowns. The recently named Army All-American has totaled over 2,000 yards of offense through eight games. In four games of action on defense he has totaled 13 tackles, two interceptions, a sack, four pass deflections, two blocked field goals and a blocked punt.
Josh Clarke had 11 tackles, a sack, and defended two pass deflections last Friday. Through five games he now has 51 tackles with six of them coming for a loss, three sacks, a pick and three forced fumbles. Josh has been selected to the International All-Star game.
Willie Gay had 7 tackles last Friday in their 70-0 win over Greenville last Friday. The recently named Army All-American now has 55 tackles, one sack, one interception, six tackles for a loss, two break up passes, two forced fumbles and two blocked kicks through six games.
A.J. Harris collected eight tackles in Bob Jones 46-41 loss to Gadsden City last Friday's game. Through seven games Harris has 61 tackles, three interceptions and seven pass breakups. Offensively the 6-foot-0, 190-pounder has over 600 yards from the line of scrimmage.
Bryan Jones put up another monster game. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound defensive end had seven tackles and 3.0 sacks last Friday. He now has 47 tackles and 14.5 sacks, and 14 tackles for a loss through six games.
Jamar Richardson returned to the field after missing the last two games. The 6-foot-0, 170-pound two-way player for Aliceville (Ala) had five tackles and two touchdowns last Friday. Through five games he now has eight touchdowns and over 600 yards of offense. On defense he has collected four interceptions and four pass deflections.
Ben Brown and Lavante Epson continue to start on both the offensive and defensive line. Ben is projected as a guard and Epson as a center on the next level. Both are expected to be in attendance this weekend. Ben also attended the season opener.
