Markel will make his final decision shortly after his last official visit

Markel Winters out of Jones CC opened his recruitment back up a couple weeks back after being committed to Ole Miss since last spring. Not all is lost for the Rebels as the 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive lineman still has them on the front of his mind.

"Ole Miss is still my number one school," Winters said. "I just wanted to weigh my options and make the right decision for my future. It was nothing Ole Miss did or didn't do."

Although the Rebels remain in front a few other schools are in the picture as well.

"I took an official visit to Mississippi State the week before last. It was a cool visit. Arizona State is supposed to come by tomorrow. They want me to come up there this weekend. I'm still not sure if I'll go on the visit or not, but I'm thinking about it. My last visit is to Ole Miss on December 9th. I'll make a decision shortly after I get back home."

Markel got a chance to see State's program up close for the first time during his official visit.

"I got to see how the program is run. I watched their Vipor linebacker the whole game and saw how they used him. That's where they want to put me. I just got a better feel for their coaches and football program. I looked at their facilities and everything. Everything was nice up there."

Auburn was making a run at Winters when they offered a few weeks back but things have cooled between the two parties.

"I haven't really talked to them much lately. Houston came by here today. Ole Miss came by Sunday and Arizona State is coming by tomorrow."

The Rebels brought their head coach to meet with Winters parents Sunday.

"Coach Freeze met with my mother about recruiting. He gave her the basics about everything. We already have a great relationship so it wasn't like he was trying to get to know me and tell me about their program. He just let me know how important I am to their program. I've been up there so much. I already know everything there is to know about Ole Miss. It's a great place that has a need for me. Like I said earlier I'll make up my mind for good after I get back in from that visit. I sign on December 12th so it's not that long."

Markel was named 1st Team All-MAJC and Region 23rd after leading the conference in sacks with sixteen.
