Jones County CC defensive lineman Markel Winters has his mind made up on where he will sign on Wednesday

Jones County CC defensive end Markel Winters was in Oxford this weekend for an official visit. Winters says he has already made up his mind on what school he will commit to on Wednesday for the junior college signing period.

When he plans on announcing his school

“I sign on Wednesday and I pretty much got my mind made up. I’m just gonna wait until signing day to let it be known on who I’m gonna sign to.”

Where he's visited

Just Mississippi State and here.

On his head recruiter Barney Farrar’s departure from the Ole Miss staff

“Of course I was disappointed you know. We had a great relationship but it didn’t affect my decision on whether I’m gonna come here or not. It’s just a sad story. He was a good dude. I just hope that he finds a better spot.”

What he wanted to find out on his most recent visit to Ole Miss

“I really already got everything I needed to know from the times I’ve been up here for games. Just coming out here and being able to see my family interact with coaches was good to see. They were treated like family just like I was. "

How he plans to commit

"We have a little signing day thing on Wedbesday around 11 o'clock and that’s when we’ll let everyone know."

What he found out this weekend that perked his ears

"This time I got a chance to sit down with the players and pick their brain about the coaches and how they feel about the program. Just where they feel like we will be if I was to come here. As far as the playoffs and whatever they said we would be good because we have a good team."

What stood out after his meeting with Freeze

"This weekend was just regular conversation. Just spending time with my family. Me and coach Freeze have already had the conversation about recruiting and what I need to know about the ins and outs of everything. So it was just more of a ‘hey how you doing’ and regular conversations. Just bonding."

On what Freeze said when Winters told him of his decision

"I haven’t really told him where I’m gonna go yet."

What about Ole Miss stands out the most right now

"The brotherhood and the way the coaches treat the players like family."

What have his parents said about Ole Miss and Mississippi State

"My family just said that Mississippi State was a well put together program and they had fun but the difference was the way the coaches treated them like family."

Was it an advantage for Freeze to have gone down to Jones and met with his family early in his recruitment

"It was an advantage. They had already spoke to my grandma and them over the phone but it was like they got to put a face to a name."

What stands out the most about State?

"Just the plan they have for their football program. They have a young class so everybody is pretty much coming back other than the D-line where they would need me at. "
