Cordova offensive lineman becoming a wanted man

Jerome Carvin out of Cordova, Tenn., is becoming one of the more hotly contested linemen in the deep South. The 6-foot-4, 325-pound tackle was offered by Ole Miss Monday. Alabama followed pursuit on Wednesday.

The Rebels have been pursuing Carvin since his 10th grade season. Monday they made it official.

"They have been recruiting me since my 10th grade season," Carvin said. "They have been coming to my school to see me practice and watch my games since I got in high school. Coach (Maurice) Harris hit me up a couple weeks back about coming to their Junior Day this weekend. I have been talking to coaches Harris and (Matt) Luke a lot since signing day. Monday they told me they were offering me a full ride. They told me they were going to wait until I got there for their Junior Day to tell me the news, but they decided to go ahead and let me know."

Cordova to Oxford, Miss., is a short drive. That is attractive for Jerome and his family.

"Memphis is real close to Ole Miss. It's only an hour drive so my family could come see me play. I'm originally from Homewood, LA., but we moved here in 2005. I grew up watching the Ole Miss/LSU games and just watching Ole Miss on tv. It's a great program. When they got Laremy Tunsil and Robert Nkemdiche that really opened my eyes to their program. I'll probably be down there Saturday to go check it out. I'm excited."

Other colleges have taken notice too.

"Louisville was my first offer. They offered me my sophomore season. Memphis, Kentucky, Missouri, Tennessee, South Carolina, MSU, and Ole Miss have offered me too."

Alabama offered this morning as well. What do all of the colleges like about Carvin's game?

"They say I'm nasty and play with a chip on my shoulder. I can drive my guy back to the secondary level. They like how I move in open space. I've never given up a sack."

Which colleges has Jerome visited to this point?

"I've been to Louisville, Memphis, Kentucky, Alabama and Arkansas. I'll probably be heading down to Oxford Saturday. I'm going to Tennessee March 10th, South Carolina for their spring game, and MSU in a couple weeks."

Who is coming after the Memphian the hardest?

"Tennessee is pushing me real hard. South Carolina and Ole Miss talk to me a lot. MSU, Kentucky, and Louisville do too. I talk to Louisville a lot."

Is there a timeframe on a decision?

"It all depends if I graduate early or not. If I do I'll go ahead and make it before the start of my senior season. If I don't, I'll wait. I just have to figure out if I want to graduate early."
