Meridian DL has better than expected trip

Deuntra Hyman out of Meridian had never been on a recruiting trip to Ole Miss. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound rush end has had time to soak the visit in. What were his thoughts?

"Honestly it went better than I expected it to be," Hyman said. "I wasn't expecting it to be like that. I had never been up there before on a recruiting trip. It really changed my whole mind set about Ole Miss. I can really see myself going there now."

The success by Freeze at Ole Miss is what initially caught his attention.

"I went to their camp last summer, and I basically wanted to start to get to know Ole Miss better. They offered me and I wanted to come up and tour their campus and get to know their coaches better. I have been watching them for a while now, and I know they have a really good team. They can win the national championship. They have the tools to do that. My next step was to just get up there and meet with their coaches. I had already been up there for a game last season to see them play Alabama. I went up to their camp last summer and got an offer. Now it was time to sit down and really go over their program with their coaches. Like I said, everything went better than I expected."

What stood out during the trip?

"I just like the atmosphere up there. Everybody treats you like family. It's crazy how close everyone is up there. You know C.J. Hampton (from Meridian) is up there so he's been telling me about it, but to get to see it in person just changes my whole perspective about Ole Miss."

The coaches at Ole Miss made a difference as well.

"They are just full of energy. They don't want you to do things just to get it done. They want you to do it to the best of your ability to become a better man and player. They are working to help get you to the league so you can be the best you can be. Coach (Freddie) Roach and I sat down for a while. He has a lot of energy. Coach (Roach) said he wants to help me become a better individual on and off of the field. He's a cool dude. I just like talking life with coach (Roach)."

Who else has offered the All-State performer that recorded 19 sacks as a junior?

"Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi, Memphis, Kansas, La Tech, and Tulane. LSU is really interested in me. They told me that coach Orgeron wanted to talk to me in person before they offered so I'm going down there in a couple weeks."

Anymore visits on tap?

"I'm going back to Ole Miss to see them practice in a couple weeks. I'm headed up to Kansas to see them practice as well. I'm also going to see Vandy practice."

Kansas has been recruiting the Deep South as of late, and they have been dipping down in the Magnolia state as well.

"Their coaches have been on me real hard. They offered me and said that I have to get up there for a visit. They want me to be a Jay hawk. That's all they ever told me. They tell me that they need a big time rush end to step in and give them some help. They want me to be that guy."
