Some were surprised that Jaylon Reed committed to Tennessee recently. Ole Miss was his first offer and many believed the Rebels had the inside track. What gave the Vols the edge?

"Because I'm trying to go into a medical field with my degree," Reed said. "UT has a medical school. They gave a family feeling to my mom so that's who I pledged my commitment to."

What else about Tennessee did the 6-foot-1 corner like?

"I can't just say their depth chart. Ole Miss has a good situation for me to come in and play as well. I don't know. I just like the feeling I'm getting about Tennessee right now."

Did Ole Miss tell Reed about their medical school.

"No, I never asked about it, honestly."

How has Ole Miss responded to Reed's Tennessee commitment?

"They are still on me hard. They are on me everyday. Its still the same love. Nothing is different at all. Coach McGriff just told me that I have made his job harder. He said he's going to come after me even harder now. We just joke around about it. We are real cool. I talk to coach (Maurice) Harris a lot too. Their coaches always make me feel at home. I really like their coaches a lot."

Reed wanted a chance to work out under their new defensive coordinator.

"I just wanted a chance to get coached up a little bit. See what he (McGriff) can do with his defensive backs. "

When we contacted Jaylon after the Ole Miss camp he had this to say,

"I always enjoy myself down in Oxford. Coach's Jones and McGriff were tough on the defensive back group. Me and my boy Jarrion Jones just balled. We impressed their whole staff."

Does Ole Miss still have a chance for Reed.

"No doubt. It's the instate school, and they were my first offer, so I can't just turn them down. I always enjoy myself when I'm at Ole Miss. It's going to be a hard decision."

Who else still has a shot.

"Mississippi State is still in there. Oregon as well."

What stands out about MSU?

"It's just a family feeling and a great environment."

"Depth chart is real low. I can come and start immediately."

What are the other factors?

"Medical school, depth chart and just convince my momma. She holds all the cards.

Did Tennessee do a good job of selling the Vols to his mother?

"Yes sir."

Where does Reed visit next?

"I'm going down to MSU with my teammates for a camp on June 10th. I'm going to the Memphis Mega camp. I think that will be it."
