Williams Commits to Miss. State

Darren Williams has committed to Mississippi State.

"I wanted to stay close to home to be close to my little brother," said Darren Williams. "I also love the defense they run; it's a perfect fit for me. The tragedy in New York didn't effect my decision to stay closer to home. I just wanted to be closer to my family. They're recruiting me to play defense, either safety or maybe even outside linebacker, but I still think I've got the skill to play some offense," Williams added with a laugh.

Williams, 6'3 and 200 pounds (4.4 fortt), plays quarterback for Clarksdale High School in Clarksdale, MS. He strained his MCL on Friday night, but he says it's not a serious injury. "The Dr. says he doesn't want me to have much contact until Friday, but I'm hoping they let me play a little wide receiver or something."

Williams is an impressive pickup for a Mississippi State team that is off to a fast start to the 2002 recruiting season. He picked MSU over, Ole Miss, Florida, and Tennessee among others.
