John is already benching nearly 400 pounds and squats over 550. At the Ole Miss camp, he ran a 4.69 and a 5.13 in the 40 yard dash. Sibley also turned in a 26" vertical and a 8.6 foot broad jump. It is that kind of athletic ability that has college recruiters koncking on his door.
The following information was revealed during our interview with Mr. Sibley:
What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 6' 3", 274,
and I run a 5.0 forty. Sometimes I can do better, but that is what I consistently
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Defensive
What makes you a good football player? "My dedication and hard work."
What are your strengths on the field? "I just play with what I know, and
I listen to what the coaches have to say. I just try to work harder than everybody
else. I do jumping jacks at home on my own. I work out at home after I get back
from the gym. I try to make sure that no one else is in better shape than me.
That is really all there is to it."
What are you trying to work on to take your game to the next level? "My speed.
Right now, they got me at middle linebacker because we are thin there. I want
to get it down to a 4.6, so that would be good for college too."
How long have you been starting for Greenville? "This will be my fourth year."
All at defensive tackle? "Well, last year I started at defensive tackle and
offensive guard. I played both ways."
Any schools recruiting you for guard? "Not that I know of."
What were your personal stats for the 2003 season? "I have no idea. I really
did not keep up with them. I try not to keep up with them. I work too hard to
get caught up in all of that. And besides, last year that did not go too good
for our team. That is another reason I did not keep up with them. I do not even
want to think about last year."
What did Greenville finish up at last year? "We were 3 - 7."
How does next year look? "We should be a lot better. Last year, we had just
lost Devrick Hampton, Quinton
Groves, and Demarcus Scott,
so we lost a whole lot. Next year, we only have like 3 rookies, and we have a
lot of guys returning on offense. We should be tight."
Which awards did you garner for your play in the 2003 season? "I do not even
really know. All-District and maybe one of the All-State teams, but I am not even
sure about that."
Which schools have you camped at this summer? "I went to Ole Miss and the
Nike camp at Georgia Tech. I am going to MSU on July 24th and MS Delta this Saturday.
Ellis Wyms is sponsoring the camp."
Which schools are actively recruiting you? "Lets see, there is Ole Miss,
Auburn, MSU, Notre Dame, Florida, and Georgia. I think there are a couple more.
Oh yea, LSU sends me a bunch of stuff, and Tennessee too."
Any offers yet? "Not just yet."
Which colleges contacted you during the May evaluation period? "I talked
to Coach Hobby at Ole Miss. I talked to Coach Knox at Auburn, and I talked to
someone at MSU, but I do not remember his name. Those are the only ones I got
Who called you first? "Coach Hobby at Ole Miss."
Which coach has made the biggest impact with you so far? "Coach Hobby. I
know him very well. Yea, Coach Hobby."
Which colleges are you looking at the hardest right now? "Really Ole Miss.
My mom wants me to go to LSU though."
What does she like about LSU? "I have no idea. Probably because they won
the national championship. That is all. She went to (Mississippi) Valley. That
is probably why, but I do not really want to go to LSU."
What do you like about Ole Miss? "Their team, and I know a lot of their coaches.
I want to go somewhere I am known. Where they know my face. I just like their
team and coaches the best."
What will be some other factors in your decision? "Well, I am looking for
a good defensive team, and the school that shows me the most love. I want to see
who is going to be there for me."
John carries a 2.8 GPA and a 16 on his ACT test.
