Hobson will attend Ole Miss' Junior Day this Saturday.
The following information was revealed during our interview with Mr. Hobson:
What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 6' 3", 200,
and I run a 4.6 forty."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "QB."
How long have you been starting for Jim Hill? "My 9th grade year I was the
starter for the first game but I broke my thumb. I was out for half of the year,
then when I came back, I rotated with a junior on our team. We pretty much rotated
for the rest of that year and half of my sophomore year. By the middle of my 10th
grade season, I took over the role for good."
What do you consider to be your strengths on the field? "This year, I feel
my passing game was more of a strength. My 10th grade year, I was more of a runner.
But I worked hard on my passing game last summer, and it really paid off."
What do you need to work on? "Now that I know our coaches, and know what
they expect from me, I can just get my mind on getting us in the right plays and
formations. We have had a lot of turnover here, but I have been with this staff
for a full year now. I mainly want to work on reading defenses and my accuracy.
Just a lot of techniques and things like that."
What were your stats from your junior season? "I passed for 1, 561 yards,
and I also had 200 rushing yards. I led Class 4A in passing yards and touchdowns,
and we only played in 9 games because we did not make the playoffs. I think I
threw a total of 6 interceptions last year."
What was Jim Hill's final record last year? "We went 5 - 4."
Did you garner any awards for your play? "Yes sir, I made All-Metro, All-District,
and All-Area. I was also the Clarion Ledger's Player of the Week twice,
News 12's Player of the Week three times, and the Jackson TD Club's Player of
Have you set any personal goals for next season? "Not really, well, I take
that back. I want to pass and rush for more yards than I did from this past season.
But I will set some bigger goals this summer. I just have not given it a lot of
Did you attend any football camps last summer? "No sir, but I plan on going
to some this summer."
Where? "Well, I am probably going to Alabama, LSU, MSU, and Ole Miss' camp."
Which schools are currently writing you? "Wow, lets see, you have MSU, Ole
Miss, LSU, Auburn, Miami, Vandy, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Notre Dame, Rice,
and a few more. I just can not think of them at the moment."
Any early offers? "No sir, not yet, I am just a junior. They can not talk
to us yet."
Which school is showing the most attention so far? "I would say the first
school would be MSU. Then I would say LSU, Auburn, Alabama, and then Ole Miss."
Did you grow up a fan of any one school? "Growing up, I was a MSU fan, but
I really have not researched them. I have no idea which school I want to go to.
I have to see who has juniors and who they have coming in. I am pretty much wide
open right now."
Which schools have caught your eye up to this point? "I would say Ole Miss,
LSU, MSU, Auburn, and Tennessee. I really like Ole Miss' offense the best. They
are a balanced attack, and you know Coach Cutcliffe is going to prepare you for
the pros. LSU also has a good offense. MSU, well, we do not know much about their
offense yet, but I like their school. Auburn and Tennessee are more of a running
team, but they have sent some players to the pros too."
Did you get a chance to attend any football games last fall? "I went to a
few of the MSU games (LSU, Kentucky, and Oregon). I also went to Ole Miss when
they played LSU, and I went to Alabama when they played LSU. I hope to get a chance
to see LSU play this year."
Which visit was your best? "Man, it would have to be that Ole Miss game.
That was a great game and atmosphere. I enjoyed that game the most. I also learned
a lot from their QB's, technique and decision making wise. I have always patterned
my game after Eli Manning."
Do you plan to attend any Junior Days this Spring? "Yes sir, I am going to
Ole Miss this weekend and Alabama on March 6th. Those are the only two that I
plan on visiting as of now. Miami wants me to come to their Junior Day, but it
is too far from home. I really would like to go to it though. It is held on February
28th, the same day as LSU's."
Have you had a chance to get to know any of the coaches who are recruiting you?
"No sir, they cannot call us until May. I have shaken a lot of hands at the
games though, but that is about it."
What are going to be the man factors that you will be looking at when you are
trying to find the school that is the best fit for you? "I will look at their
tradition, both athletically and academically. I will also look at their prior
recruiting class and see who they signed at my position. I will look at their
depth chart and see how many juniors and seniors they have on their roster. And
lastly, I will look at the type of offense they run."
What type of offense are you looking for? "One like Ole Miss', where it is
a true balanced attack."
Tony carries a 3.3 Core GPA and takes the ACT test for the first time in April.
