Louis commits to Ole Miss

Due to the success on the recruiting trails from the past three years, the Rebels are in a "laid back" position with the defensive tackle slots. In fact, the early synopsis is that they will only sign two in the 2005 class.

It looks like one slot is now filled, as one of their top priority committed to Ole Miss over the weekend.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Mr. Ellis:

What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 6' 3", 274. It has been so long since I have run the 40, but the last time I did it, I ran a 4.8. That was last summer at some combine. I will get timed again at the camps this summer."

Where all do you plan to camp at this summer? "I am going to the Nike camp (LSU) on May 2nd. I am also going to Ole Miss' three day camp, and I might go to their senior camp too. I do not know. I am going to try and go to a bunch of them, but I know I am going to the Nike Camp and to the Ole Miss camp."

Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Defensive tackle."

What are your strengths on the field? "I just listen to what my coaches tell me, and try to do as they say, so I can be successful on the field. If I do as my coaches say, I think I will become a better football player."

What physical attributes do you bring to the table? "My size and the speed I got. For my size, I am very quick. At least that is what they tell me."

What are you working on to take your game to the next level? "Well, really, I am just trying to get stronger. I also need to get a little bigger but not a lot bigger. I am also working on a couple more techniques so I can get better."

How long have you been starting for Lanier? "Well, ever since I was a freshman, but I am not going to play there next year."

Where are you going to play? "At C.M.&I."

Where is that? "It is a private school on Main Street (Jackson, MS)."

Why did you decide to transfer to C.M.I? "Well, it is like a church school, and they take special care of their students. I have a friend on our team that is going there next year too. They want to help us get eligible."

Does C.M.I. have a football team? "Yes sir, I will be playing for them. I was told that I was going to be taken off of the Dandy Dozen Team if I go there. But I told them, do what ever you have to do. I am going to get my books straight, so if they have to take me off of their team, then so be it."

What were your stats as a junior at Lanier? "I had 80 tackles, 15 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 recovered fumble. That is all that I can remember."

Any awards for your play? "Well, I was our District Player of the Year. I also made All-Metro and All-State."

What are your personal goals for this upcoming season? "Really, it is not too much to do with football. I am just trying to get myself academically ready for Ole Miss. I do not have to play another down of high school football. I just want to get my books straight and get up there, but I am going to play for CMI. I just do not want to have to go to some junior college. I would not even play at a junior college if it came down to that. I just want to be at Ole Miss."

What is your current GPA and ACT score? "I do not even know what my GPA is right now. I have about a "C" average. I am going to take some classes this summer, so when my senior year starts, I will be right where I need to be. As to my ACT test, I just took it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I am still waiting on that score."

Are the reports true that state you have committed to Ole Miss? "Yes sir, I did."

When did you commit? "Friday."

Who recruits you for Ole Miss? "Coach Jay Hopson."

How long have you known Coach Hopson? "I just met him Saturday. That is my first time to personally meet him, but I have been calling him a lot."

When did you start calling Coach Hopson? "Like 2 months ago. They were sending me a bunch of stuff in the mail so I decided to give him a call one Saturday. We just hit it off, and I have been calling him like every week ever since then."

Why did you choose Ole Miss? "Well, the reason I decided on Ole Miss; I like the football team but then the academics. That is what I liked."

Who else were you considering before you decided on Ole Miss? "LSU and MSU."

Who would you say came in second place for you? "LSU."

Any offers? "All three of those schools have offered me."

Have you informed the other schools of your decision? "No sir, not yet. When I went up to LSU for their Junior Day, I met with Coach Saban. Just him and me talked for a long time. He told me that I was his number one guy, and that they really wanted me to come over there. I told him that I was going to go check Ole Miss out first, then I would let him know. When I went up to Ole Miss, I just kind of fell in love, so I guess he is going to be pretty disappointed."

Was this your first visit to Ole Miss? "Yes sir."

What all did you learn about Ole Miss during your trip? "They are family. They all stick together. They take care of one another. They just stick together."

What stood out about Ole Miss during your trip? "I liked the coaching staff, the team, and the alumni because they support you."

Have you been on any visits besides LSU's Junior Day and Ole Miss' Spring game? "No sir, I have not. I was suppose to go to MSU's Jr Day, but I never made it."

I know it is early, but have you given any thought about taking your visits next year? "Not really, I don't really even care about taking other visits because I am so happy about Ole Miss."
