The Rebels landed Florida's Class 6A Player of the Year, Alan Abrams, in 2003. Now they have their eyes set on another Class 6A Player of the Year, Maurice Wells.

All Maurice did last year was rush for 3, 076 yards and scored a state best 31 TD's. Wells also broke the state record for most rushing yards in a game with 479.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Mr. Wells:

What is you current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 5' 10", 185, and I run a 4.38 forty. Well, I have not been timed in a long time, but I will be this Tuesday by my coaches."

Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Running back."

What are your strengths on the field? "Probably my vision, my speed, my quickness, and my agility. I am not real big, so I am not going to run over you. But my durability is also a plus. I have never been hurt. My speed and vision is probably what separates me from the rest of the pack."

Which college or pro running back do you compare yourself with? "I really do not compare myself to anyone. I am my own person with my own style. A lot of people say that I run like Ricky Williams, but I do not know. I think if I had to name one back, I would say LaDainian Tomlinson. No matter who is in front of us, we can beat you with our angles. I do not catch the ball as well as him though (laugh). That is for sure."

What do you need to work on to take your game to the next level? "Really, I am not a big guy, so I am taking a lot of protein. I do not want to get too big though, because I might lose my quickness. That and catching the ball out of the backfield."

What was Sandlewood's record last season? "We ended up at 8 - 5 and lost in the Region Finals to Edgewater."

How were your stats? "They were pretty good (laugh). I ended the year with 3, 076 yards and 31 TD's. I do not not remember how many carries I had."

What were the awards you received for your play? "I was named the Class 6A Player of the Year. I was runner up to Mr. Florida, and I was the N' East Offensive Player of the Year. I made 1st Team All-State too."

How long have you been starting for Sandlewood? "Since my sophomore year. At the beginning of the year, I played CB, but they moved me to RB in game 5. I have been starting there ever since."

Do you continue to play any corner? "I do not play too much corner because I get the ball a lot. I am too tired to go both ways. But in the games where I am not getting the ball as much, they put me in at cornerback."

Are any schools giving you a look at cornerback? "Not that I know of."

Which schools seem to be the most serious with you right now? "I have a total of 9 schools who have offered me a scholarship. I still have a couple of pending offers like Notre Dame and Ole Miss, but I have 7 written offers and 2 verbal offers up to this point. Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Duke, USC, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Florida State. I am missing one, but I can not think of the school right now. Oh yea, Purdue. I have not gotten a written offer from Purdue or Florida State yet, but they said it was on the way."

Which schools have peaked your interest? "I like Georgia Tech, Ohio State, and USC. I talk to their coaches on the phone a lot. I have gotten to know those staffs the best. My head coach, his dad is the assistant head coach at Georgia Tech. They started recruiting me early, and they were the first school to offer me. That is why I am going to their camp and all. Those three schools are the three I like the most."

Are you receiving any letters from Ole Miss? "Oh yea, Ole Miss started recruiting me early too, but they have not officially offered me yet. Them and Notre Dame are suppose to soon though. They want to get me down for a visit, and their coach told my coach that they were going to offer me after that."

Did you get a chance to attend any Jr Days this Spring? "No, I did not get a chance to do any of those. I am in a lot of advanced classes, so I have to stay on top of my books."

What is your current GPA and SAT test score? "I have a 3.8 Overall GPA and a 3.37 Core GPA. I am already taking classes that I will get credit for in college. I have been in advanced classes my whole life. I scored a 890 on the SAT test, but I am retaking that next month."

What will you be looking for when you are trying to find the right school for you? "I just want to go to the best football team that has an opening for a running back. I might not have to start in my first year, but I do not want to redshirt. I do want the starting job by sophomore year though. I know I will have to earn it, so I am not trying to say that they have to give it to me, but I want a fair shot. Distance makes no difference to me. I am actually from up north, so I have lived in all parts of the country."
