The following information was revealed during our interview with Trey Hampton:
What is your current height and weight? "I am 6' 7", 215."
Strength wise, where do you stand? "On my bench, I can lift 235. On my squat, I can get it up to 320, but I do not squat too much."
Have you been measured for your vertical recently? "No sir, but I am going to get that done next month at Ole Miss. Rivals has me at 40", so I guess you can just put that."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Small Forward."
What are your strengths on the court? "I would have to say my athleticism makes me stand out. But, as far as on the court strengths, I guess I would say my aggressiveness and the way I attack the basket. That allows me to make a lot of plays. I do not let the game come to me, I go to it."
Which camps did you attend this summer? "I only went to one camp and that was the Adidas SuperStar camp."
What did you average during the tournament? "I am not sure, but at least 14 to 15 points."
Which AAU team do you play for? "Alabama Challenge."
How long have you been starting for Hoover? "Every since I was a freshman."
What did you average during your junior campaign? "I averaged 21 points, between 7 to 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals and around 2 assists per game."
Did you garner any awards? "Yes sir, I was named Player of the Week in the City of Birmingham by the Tip Off Club. I also made All-State in Class 6A. I was the only junior in Alabama who made the team."
Word has it that you committed to Ole Miss; is this true? "Yes sir."
When did you commit to the University of Mississippi? "On Friday the 13th."
Which coach did you commit to? "I called Coach Dildy to find Coach Barnes, but he was the first one to find out."
What was his reaction? "He
was just real happy and so am I."
Why did you decide on Ole
Miss? "They are the best fit for me athletically and academically. My family
and I went on an unofficial visit to Ole Miss this summer, and we all hit it
off with their staff. I already had a close relationship with their staff, but
that was the first time my parents had really spent a whole lot of time around
them. And really, their recruitment of me never wavered. They were at all of
my games this summer, the other schools were too, but they said I was their
man from day one and they never wavered. They are just the best fit for me."
Who would you say came in second place? "I would have to say Auburn. They are pretty close to home. Them and Pittsburgh. I liked Pitt a lot too, but I found out they were not going to offer a small forward in the fall signing period."
Which schools did offer you a scholarship? "Of course, Ole Miss, then you had Auburn, UAB, Boston College, and Colorado State. That is pretty much the people who offered."
Where there anymore schools who were serious with you but had not offered yet? "Yes sir, Memphis and Cincinnati were real serious in the Spring. When Coach Huggins got in that stuff, their recruitment tapered off. Pittsburgh was recruiting me real hard too, until they decided to not sign a small forward.. I stayed in phone contact with Alabama, Connecticut, and Illinois too."
Have you lined up your official visit with Ole Miss yet? "Yes sir, I go on September 17th, the day they play Vandy in football."
Will you take anymore visits? "No sir, this is as solid of a verbal commitment as you can get. I am not even thinking about visiting anymore schools. This is it for me."
What is your current GPA and ACT score? "I have a 2.4 Core GPA and I made a 19 on my ACT test.
