Chase Ware commits to Ole Miss

Chase Ware </b> (RHP/Olive Branch, MS) - Ole Miss' baseball program just got that much stronger when the 1st Team All-District, Conference, and Metro (<i>Commercial Appeal</i>) selection committed to the Rebels on Sunday.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Chase Ware:

What is your current height and weight? "I am 6' 4 1/2", 190."

Which position(s) do you currently play? "I pitch and play short stop."

Which side do you throw and bat from? "I throw and bat from the right side."

Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "I was recruited to pitch."

What are your strengths on the diamond? "Getting ahead in the count works pretty well for me. It throws them off balance. I throw in the mid to high 80's pretty consistently. I am not what you call a big strikeout pitcher. I like to get a lot of ground balls. I can strike you out if I need to, but ground balls are my forte. I just love pitching. There is nothing I would rather be doing. I just try to hit my spots."

What are you currently working on to improve your game? "I just got back from the weight room about 10 minutes ago. I am still trying to catch my breath. I am working real hard in the weight room these days. My upper and lower body needs to get stronger. I will get a better push off when I get strongerr. I will pitch at Ole Miss, but I play SS too. I hit.301 last year, so I have a lot of improving to do in the box. My main goal is to get up to 215 when I am up at Ole Miss. I am at 190 right now. I see so many college guys who are so much bigger than they were in high school, so hopefully I will be one of those guys.."

Which pitches do you throw? "I throw a fastball, curveball, change up , and I throw a a knuckle ball sometimes. I throw a cut fastball too. I have a pretty good cutter."

What is your "go to" pitch? "I am consistent with all of my pitches, but probably my fastball or an occasional change up is my out pitch. I feel I can throw any pitch for a strike, but I trust my fastball fully. I know I can hit my spots.."

How hard do you throw your fastball? "I average between 87 to 88 mph. My fastest clocked time is at 92 MPH.""

What were your stats from your junior season? "I went 10 - 1 with a 1.42 ERA. I pitched in 72 1/2 innings, and I had 77 k's and 11 walks. I did not give up a HR last year."

Which awards did you receive for your play? "I won our Pitching Award at Olive Branch, and I made 1st Team All-District, 1st Team Conference, and 1st Team All-Metro (Commercial Appeal)."

How did Olive Branch fare last season? "We went 29-7. We lost to N' West Rankin in the North Half Championship game on a walk off home run. We are still in shock over it. I transferred from Southaven after my 10th grade season, and we had the same thing happen to us there too. Someone hit a HR in the championship game to beat us out."

Did you commit to Ole Miss? "Yes sir."

Why did you choose Ole Miss? "Pretty much, I have been going to their games since my brother was up there, when I was like 7 years old. Jason got me hooked on Ole Miss, and I just get that feeling when I am on their campus. It just feels like home. If I did not play baseball, I would still go to school there. There are no better 4 coaches in the country than the ones they have at Ole Miss. I just want to be a part of their program."

Which schools were recruiting you the hardest before you made your commitment to Ole Miss? "LSU, Vandy, Memphis, MTSU, Virginia, Western Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Navy."

Which camps have you attended this summer? "I went to a team camp at MSU, and I went to Ole Miss' individual camp."

What is your current GPA and ACT score? "I have a 3.5 GPA and a 19 on the ACT test."
