Louisiana Lineman Takes A Trip To Ole Miss
The following information was revealed during our interview with Mr. Fulmer:
What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am just a tab under 6' 5" and I weigh 280. I run a 4.9 average wise, but my best time was a 4.85."
What are you currently maxing out at, bench and squat? "430 on my bench and 600 on my squat."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Mainly on the defensive line."
What are your strengths on the field? "I guess my size and strength. I am pretty fast for a big guy. I have good feet. I run well. I am real aggressive too."
What do you need to work on? "I need to use my hands a little more. I try to run over them. I get tripled teamed now, so I usually stunt and run through the gap, but I am trying to use my hands a little more."
Which camps did you attend this summer? "I went to Ole Miss, LSU, and the Nike Camp in Baton Rouge. I really did not learn anything at the LSU camp. There were like 500 linemen over there. They were bringing them in by the buses. We did not learn anything. I liked the other two camps though."
Which position(s) are you playing this year? "Anywhere on the defensive line. I move every week. They put me where I am most useful."
What were your stats as a junior? "I had like 54 tackles, 35 tackles from behind the line of scrimmage, 16 sacks, 1 blocked punt, 3 caused fumbles, and 5 recovered fumbles."
Garner any awards? "I was named All-District, and I made the Coach's All-State Team."
Which schools have called you in the month of September? "Ole Miss, South Carolina, ULM, La-Tech, Southern Mississippi, and some others that I do not even remember their name. Those schools called me last week and this week too. They are the main ones."
Which coaches have made an impact with you? "Dave Roberts (South Carolina) and Jay Hopson (Ole Miss). Coach Dave use to coach at ULM. One of my coaches is good friends with him. Coach Roberts has always been honest and upfront with me. He does exactly what he says he will do. He is straight forward. And Coach Hopson, he is just real interested in me. He worries about how I am doing in school, how I did in my game. Things like that. I like the way he treats me."
Which school contacted you first during the May evaluation period? "Coach Hopson (Ole Miss) was the first coach to call."
Any offers? "ULM and South Carolina have."
Which schools are now at the top of your list? "I would put Ole Miss, South Carolina, LSU, and La-Tech up there."
Have you been on any unofficial visits? "I was at Ole Miss last weekend. I go to LSU this weekend, and Coach Dave Roberts (South Carolina) is setting up my official visit tomorrow. I have been to Ole Miss and LSU a few times, like to their Jr Days and things like that."
How did your visit to Ole Miss go? "I like their campus over there. It is real pretty. It kind of feels like home over there. They are in a small town, and I come from a small town. I kind of like the fans over there. I just like Ole Miss. It just feels like home to me. My mom's boss went there and some of her friends went to school there. It would be easy for me to go over there."
Was your scholarship status discussed during your visit? "My coach called over there. They said they were 95% positive they were going to offer. I do not know what that is suppose to mean. It kind of aggravates me a little bit."
What all do you like about South Carolina? "Their coaches have never lied to me. Everything they said they were going to do, they did. My cousin lives over there, and he drives their President around. He loves it up there. Coach Roberts came to my school and gave me a scholarship before he even watched film on me. I like the way they treat their recruits. They do not beat around the bush."
If you had to name another school that is way up their in your pecking order, who would it be? "Probably La Tech. They are my hometown school. Half of my family went to school there. All of my family and friends could watch me play if I went there."
You mentioned that you are about to set up an official visit with South Carolina; have you set up anymore official visits? "No sir. I think the next time I go to Ole Miss I am going to talk to them about it. Nobody from our school has ever signed with a D1 school, so this is all new to us."
When it comes down to it; what will be the determining factors in your decision? "I want to be in a good Engineering program, first of all. Football wise, I want to go where I can play. I am not worried about winning a national championship. I just want to play and be a factor. I will play offense, special teams, defense. It does not matter to me. I just want to be out on the field doing something. I also do not want to be in a city type of environment. I want to hunt, fish, and still have the country around me."
