Slocum now has three offers
The following information was revealed during our interview with Matt Slocum:
What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I was measured at 6' 4", 245 at the Nike camp, but I might have grown some since then. I am not sure. I might have gotten a little taller. My best forty time was a 4.47. I ran that at the Nike camp, but I probably average a 4.6."
What do you bench, squat, and have you been measured in your vertical? "I can bench 225 times 18 times. The most I have benched on a single rep is 330. I usually do 6 reps of 405 when I am working on my legs. I think I had a 33.5" vertical at the Nike camp."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Defensive end."
What are your strengths at DE? "Probably my aggressiveness to the ball. I definitely do not fear anybody. Intimidation plays a big factor in the game."
What are you working on? "My start off speed needs to get back to where it was."
Did you sustain an injury or something? "Just a sprained ankle in the summer. It slowed me down but it is fine now."
How long have you been starting for West Monroe? "Since I was a sophomore."
How did West Monroe fare on the field last season? "We finished 12 - 2. We made it to the State 5A Semifinals, but we lost."
What were your stats for the year? "I had 49 tackles, 5 1/2 sacks, and 2 fumble recoveries."
Any awards? "I was named 1st Team All-State (Coaches) and 1st Team All-District (LHSA)."
How is your season going this year? "We are 2 - 0 right now. We just beat the #2 team in the state (LA), Carencrow, 21-3. I have 10 tackles and 2 sacks so far."
Which colleges seem to be the most interested in you right now? "South Carolina, Arkansas, Tulane, and Notre Dame is pretty interested. Auburn too."
Any phone calls this month? "Oh yea, I have received a pretty good many. Our family moved houses earlier this month, so our phone was disconnected. I need to find out from coach who all called, because he told me they were calling the school looking for me. I have personally talked to Arkansas, LSU, Auburn, South Carolina, Tulane, ULM, and Nebraska. Those are the ones that I can think of off of the top of my head."
Any offers? "Yea, I received one from South Carolina, ULM, and Tulane."
Which schools are at the top of your list? "Really like South Carolina, Arkansas, and Auburn. I am pretty much wide open, but those three are my early leaders because they send me the most stuff. I like Notre Dame a lot too. I am just concentrating on my senior season right now though.""
Has Ole Miss been in contact with you? "They have sent me some letters, but they have not called or anything. I want to visit their campus. I heard it was real nice."
Have you been to any college games this fall? "Not yet, but I am probably going to see the Arkansas vs South Carolina game."
When you are trying to find that right school;what will be some factors in your decision process? "Definitely the environment. I do not want to be at a place where there are a lot of distractions around me. I need to stay focused. I want my coaches to be like family. I do not want to be just friends on the field. I want them to be like family."
Matt carries a 3.3 GPA and has yet to take the ACT test.
