J.D. is off to a solid start.
The following information was revealed during our interview with JD Lawhorn:
What is your current size? "I am still about 6' 2", 180."
Tell us how MUS's season is going? "We are 6 - 0. We are ranked #2 in Memphis' Dandy Dozen. In the Division 11 poll, we are #1. Overall, for the state of Tennessee, we are #9. We are doing really well. This is like our best start in our school's history. We beat Briarcrest and that was really big. (Justin) Sparks and Big Mike (Michael Oher) play on that team."
Did you get a chance to talk to Justin and Michael before or after the game? "Yes, Sparks called right after the game was over. I talked to Big Mike before the game. We just talked a little, just about football, who we have to play the rest of the season. Sparks is going to be my roommate at Ole Miss. I know Justin has been talking to Michael a lot about coming with us. I think Ole Miss' chances are good. I keep reading about how Michael is not really looking at Ole Miss from the internet articles, but that is not true. Practically their whole school are big Ole Miss fans. Big Mike is also always around Justin. They go everywhere together. I think he is in good hands."
Tell us about your personal stats for the season? "Right now, I have 19 catches for 351 yards and 7 TD's at wide receiver. I also have 11 punt returns for 201 yards and 1 TD."
Any awards? "I was the Memphis' Touchdown Player of the Week. I think it was Game 3."
What improvements have you seen in your game this year? "Well, my routes seem more crisp and sharp. I have always been a good route runner, but this year, I feel I have even become a better one. And blocking, I am not getting the ball as much this year, because we actually have a running game, but I am loving it because we are winning. I have really improved my blocking techniques. Both blocking and routes are so important to succeed on the SEC level, so I have really been focusing on those two areas. I want to be a step ahead when I get to Ole Miss."
JD carries a 2.8 GPA and a 21 on his ACT.
