Travis' recruitment is still open

Travis Sanford (WR/S, Batesville, MS) - While South Panola has been steam rolling every opponent they have faced, Travis Sanford has been putting up some quite impressive numbers.

Through four games, Travis has 5 interceptions and 2 defensive touchdowns at safety and 7 touchdowns at wide receiver.

Mississippi's #2 rated prospect by The Insiders is still keeping his options open, but it looks like two schools have made the biggest impact so far.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Travis Sanford:

How is your season going (interview was conducted on 9/30/04)? "We are doing pretty good. I have 5 picks and 2 defensive TD's on defense and 7 offensive TD's. The season is going how I expected. We got a big game this weekend, against Olive Branch (South Panola won 28-10)."

Are you starting at both wide receiver and safety? "Yea, both ways."

Do you know your stats? "I have about 300 yards receiving. I really have not been playing that much offense because we have not been playing anybody. They take us out in the 2nd quarter and let some of the younger guys play. On defense, I am our leading tackler. I have 38 tackles and 5 interceptions through 4 games."

Any weekly awards? "Yea, I have 3 plaques. They give you a plaque when you are either the Offensive, Defensive, or Special Teams Player of the Week."

Which position are you mostly being recruited for? "Mostly wide receiver, but some of them say I could play both ways."

Which coaches have called you this month? "The head coach from Tennessee called 3 weeks ago. Coach Luke, he calls all the time. Those are about the only two."

Have any coaches come to your games this month? "Some coach from Tennessee came last week. Coach Luke has been a couple of times. There have been some more, but I really did not pay attention."

Any new offers? "No sir."

Who do you feel like is recruiting you the hardest? "No doubt, Ole Miss."

Where does Ole Miss stand with you? "I do not know. I went and checked everything out, their indoor facility and everything. It is hard to say right now. You know, a lot of my boys are there, so it would be hard to say no, but I am still open."

Who else is in the picture? "I really do not know. Lets see, Southern Mississippi and LSU."

What stands out about those two schools? "I do not know, I just would not mind checking them out. I have never been to visit either school."

Have you attended any games this fall and do you have any planned in the future? "I have gone to an Ole Miss game, and I am suppose to be going back to Ole Miss when they play Tennessee and Auburn. Coach Fulmer wants Derek Pegues and I to come to a game of theirs, but I do not know, it is so far."

Where do you now stand, academically? "My grades are doing good. I took some classes this summer that really helped me out. I still have to take the ACT test. I have not taken it yet. I think I am going to take the one that is being given in December."
