Practice Report: Thursday

The focus today was on execution and gameplanning, but the concerns still are centered around the injury situation. The following is a complete rundown of the Rebels' bumps and bruises and what their projected status for Saturday's game against Tennessee is.

Injury update:

* WR Mike Espy - sprained ankle - Espy practiced today and said he felt much better, but Football Trainer Tim Mullins said Mike's status for Saturday is "most likely limited." . . "Mike is a battler and he wants to play. We'll continue treating him heavily until gametime, but my guess is that he won't be able to play as much as he'd like to," Mullins noted. . . If Espy is limited, that punts will most likely be fielded by B. Brown, Taye Biddle or Larry Kendrick. On kickoff returns, if Espy can't go, look for B. and Kendrick to be the deep backs. Espy's spot in the WR rotation will be filled by a collection of all the other receivers getting a few more snaps each and more snaps for Kendrick.

* DT Chris Herring - pulled calf muscle - Chris said today that he feels "fine" and will play against Tennessee. Mullins agreed. "Chris had a good day yesterday and feels even better today. He will play," Mullins stated.

* SS Kelvin Robinson - sore shoulder - will play, but is still sore. "Kelvin should be able to play, but we'll have to keep a close eye on him as the game progresses," said Mullins.

* OT Tre' Stallings - sprained ankle - "Tre' did much better yesterday and even better today. He will play," Mullins allowed. "It's strange about injuries. For a few weeks, it seemed all the injuries were on the defensive side. This week, some of the defensive players have healed up, but every starting offensive lineman has been in treatment all week. Marcus Johnson has sore knees, Chris Spencer has soreness in his knees, Bobby Harris is still trying to get his ankle 100% and Doug Buckles had a hurt back earlier in the week. All will play, but we are crossing our fingers that they will be OK."

* DE Jayme Mitchell - sprained knee - did not practice yesterday, but practiced today and said he felt "much better." Jayme said he will play against UT and Mullins said the 6-6 junior has the green light.

* FB Rick Razzano - bruised quad - will play. Still sore today, but the soreness has subsided a little bit each day. By Saturday, he said, he will be 100% after undergoing treatment four or five more times in the next 48 hours.

* DE Corvelli Haynes - sore shoulder - said he will play, but may be limited.

* TB Jamal Pittman - hamstring - practiced this week, but wasn't full speed. "I'd say he's about 80% and don't know how much action he will see Saturday," Mullins said.

* CB Bryant Thomas - pulled his hamstring today in a kickoff coverage drill. Doubtful for Saturday.

* WR Mico McSwain - sprained ankle. Redshirt who wasn't going to play anyway, but he will likely be out a few days.

Mullins was quick to point out that most of the players listed will not be 100%, but they will be healthy enough to give it a go and should be healthy enough to be effective for at least some duty. We shall see.

As is the case every Thursday, the Rebs went over their entire gameplan and concentrated on execution of all their plays and assignments on both sides of the ball and did extensive work in special teams phases. "I have been pleased with the week's practice. The kids are looking forward to this challenge," said Cutcliffe. "This kind of matchup is what you compete for. We are all excited."
