"I thought we had good work on both sides of the ball, certainly better than w week ago. We showed the kind of enthusiasm and intensity and tempo that is needed to prepare for SEC games," Cutcliffe noted. "We have a big challenge facing us. To me, LSU is one of the top teams in the country. They have experienced some difficulties this year, but they are just as talented as they were last year. In order for us to have any kind of chance, we had to have a great week of preparation. Thus far, we have done that. I have been very pleased with the last three days, but we still have to cap the practice week off with a good workout tomorrow as we put the finishing touches on."
Cutcliffe showed some concern earlier in the week with the passing game, but said that improved some today.
"We weren't perfect, but we were better at throwing and catching the ball," he noted. "I think a lot of that comes from focusing and being into what you are doing. I have seen more signs of that this week."
Earlier in the week, Cutcliffe said he was going to find players who wanted to compete and play with emotion. He was asked if that has taken place and if that meant any personnel changes.
"I think we are honing in on the players who want to lay it on the line this week. As far as changes, there may be changes in the amount of playing time some players get, but that is not something I will discuss publicly," he responded.
As far as the health of the team, WR Matt Pierce has a pulled hamstring and is doubtful for Saturday's game. . . LB Garry Pack has an injured shoulder and has been held out of contact this week, but he has practiced (sans the contact) and is expected to play against LSU. . . DT Andrew Wicker is trying to make a quick comeback from scope knee surgery a little over two weeks ago.he was sore today and had limited work, but he has been cleared to play if he continues improving the rest of the week. . . OG/C Tony Bonds has a shoulder injury and did not dress out today. His status for the game is questionable/doubtful. . . As you already know, DEs Jamey Mitchell (broken foot) and Corey Mills (groin injury) are out, most likely for the season.
The Rebel players are trying to do their part to finish off the season on a high note. All week long they have been calling on each other to step it up a notch and to get the job done. We shall see if that attitude carries over into the last two games.
As we reported yesterday, FS Eric Oliver will not start against LSU due to disciplinary action taken when he overslept and missed a film session. B. Brown will start in his place, but Eric will play.
