Levance Richmond talks about UM visit
Richmond took an official visit with the Rebels this past weekend. We called to see how his visit went.
The following information was revealed during our interview with Levance Richmond:
What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 6' 0", about 192, and I run a 4.4 forty."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Weak safety, but I am a better wide out than D.B."
What are your strengths on the field? "People underestimate my jumping ability. That allows me to go up and get the ball."
What are you working on for the next level? "Just getting stronger. If I get that, I believe I got the whole package."
What do you currently bench and squat? "235 (bench), and the last time I did my legs, I did 315."
How did you end up at Pearl River CC? "Coach Hatton (Pearl River CC's head coach). I played against him in high school. He knew my grades were messed up, so he told me to come with him."
How long have you been starting for Pearl River CC? "Both years. I played weak safety last year, because I was behind Larry Kendrick."
What was Pearl's record last year? "We went 10 - 1. We won state (Mississippi). If we had not lost that game, we would have played in the national championship game."
What were your stats for the year? "All I know is that I had 5 int's."
How did this season go? "We won it all this year. We won the National Championship."
Stats? "I had 13 interceptions and 7 touchdowns."
Any awards? "I was named 1st Team everything, All-American, State, Region, all of that."
How many picks did you have in high school? "27."
How did you get so good at picking off passes? "I just like to go get the ball when the ball is in the air. I feel like it is my ball. Coach told me a long time ago that I have the speed and jumping ability to get any ball that is in the air."
When are you scheduled to graduate from Pearl River CC? "Next week."
Which schools have you visited or are going to visit? "I went to Ole Miss last weekend, and I am going to Texas A&M this weekend."
Who else are you talking to? "There are about 20 schools right now who are trying to get me. I really can not say right now, because there is a lot of stuff on my mind."
How did your visit to Ole Miss go? "It was alright."
Who was your host? "Larry Brackins. He is a great friend of mine. I played against him in high school and with him at Pearl River CC. I learned a lot from him, on and off the field."
Did Ole Miss tell you that you had an offer? "Well, they said I would have to wait until their new coach was there. I do not know, it is all pretty messed up."
What did you learn about Ole Miss that maybe you did not know from before? "I had already known some stuff about them. I have been up there a few times since I have been here (Pearl River CC). Their coaching staff really recruits you hard. They have great facilities. But, when their coaching staff got fired, it let me know things are not going too good up there. That makes my iffy about them. Plus, Larry (Kendrick) did not play too much this year. Just seeing how they did him, knowing what type of player he is, I do not know. I only have two years, so, I really do not want to get into a situation like that. I would have already committed to Ole Miss if they had not done Larry that way. (Larry) Brackins would too. We both have been thinking about Ole Miss for a long time."
Where there any positives that you saw while you were on your visit? "I liked that I was up there with an old friend, (Larry) Kendrick. It was good to kick it with him again. I also like their academics. I liked what they were talking about. That would fit me."
Where does Ole Miss now stand with you? "I think I am not going to go up there. I do not want to go up there no more."
Who are the other candidates? "I would say Troy State, Texas A&M or USM. It will probably be one of those three schools."
What will be the factors in your decision? "I just want a school to be real with me. Do not waste my time. I only have 2 years (to play). Most schools just tell you stuff to just get you to sign. I went through this in high school, so I know now how it goes."
Did you sign with anyone out of high school? "No."
Levance is a December graduate.
