The following information was revealed during our interview with Derek Pegues:

What was your record during your stay at South Panola? "We went 44-1. We lost in the state championship game against Wayne County my sophomore year."

How did it feel to repeat this year? "It felt pretty good. We played with a lot less talent this year, and I take a lot from that."

What were your final stats for the year? "I had over 1,600 yards rushing and 700 passing. I had like 26 rushing TD's and 8 passing TD's. At corner, I had 7 int's and 51 tackles."

Have you had any recent inhome visits? "Coach "O" (Ole Miss' new head coach) came by yesterday. He brought Coach Luke and Coach Hopson with him. Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, MSU, all of them have been by the crib."

What was your impression of the new Ole Miss head coach? "Oh man, he is a cool cat. He is real live, pumped up type of guy. I liked him a lot."

What all did he have to say to you? "He told me that it was his first day on the job, and he came to see me."

With Ole Miss keeping the coach who was recruiting from the prior staff; does that help their chances? "Yea, that was real important to me. It helps a lot."

Have you had a chance to set up your official visits? "I went to Tennessee last weekend (12/10), and I am going to LSU (1/21) and Ole Miss (1/28) next."

Will you take anymore official visits? "No, that will be it. I am going to the Army All-American Bowl for a week, and I do not come back until January 16th. It is pretty much down to those three schools anyway."

What will you be looking for while you are on your visits? "I just want to go where I feel the most comfortable. That is about all."

Does the fact that Ole Miss has some of your teammates on their team play a role in your decision? "Yea, it really do."

Derek is an excellent student and is on course to becoming a full qualifier (3.0 GPA / 18 ACT).
