Blake McAdams visits Coach Orgeron
What did Ripley do this season? "Lets see. We went 7 - 4. We made it to the second round. We had a real young team. We started 10 sophomores. We had a pretty good year, for that reason, I guess."
What did you most improve on this year? "I was a lot more consistent with my punts. My rushing yards went up a great deal. I had over 900 rushing yards and 140 tackles on defense."
Which positions did you play this year? "I played QB, safety, and I punted and kicked off."
What was your punting average for the year? "It was a little over 42 yards."
Any awards? "I was named Player of the Year in Region 7(3A). I was a Mr. Football Back Finalist. They nominated 3 players that are considered backs. (That includes quarterback, running back, wide receiver, cornerback, and running back.) I was chooses as one of the top 3 backs. I also made 1st Team All-State for all classifications by AP and the coaches poll."
Have you had a chance to speak with Coach Orgeron yet? "Yes sir, I talked to him this past Sunday. I drove down to Oxford and we met. He is a high energy guy. I really liked him."
What all did he have to say to you? "He said he is anxious to get everything going. He is ready for signing day to get here, and get me their as soon as possible."
Are you still set to sign Ole Miss? "As of right now, I am. I am still listening to some other schools, but as of right now, I am still committed to Ole Miss."
Which schools are you listening to? "Alabama, MSU, and Memphis."
Have they offered you? "MSU has, and Alabama and Memphis are real serious."
What are your concerns with Ole Miss right now? "Well, a big reason I committed to Ole Miss was due to Coach Cutcliffe. I was real familiar with him. Also, I am not just a punter, I play defense too. The other coaches are telling me that Coach "O" has not had a chance to see me play, and they have told me that I could play defense for them as a freshman. That is one of the big reasons I am listening."
Which coaches have come to see you at your house? "Coach Matt Luke (UM) came last Sunday, and Coach Croom (MSU) came the Sunday before."
Did you talk to Coach Orgeron about the issue of you playing defense? "I did, I told him I would like to play defense. He told me that would be fine with him, but I would have to work my way up and show him I could play. See, some of the other coaches tell me that because they have seen me during my junior and senior seasons, they know what I can do. That is why I would get to play defense my freshman year, where as at Ole Miss, it might take me some time to get on the field at defense. I mean, I understand where Coach "O" is coming from, that is why I sent him some tapes. He is going to evaluate them during the dead period."
Have you lined up any official visits? "I go to MSU on January 14th. I think Ole Miss is going to bring me in on the 21st. That was the day we had lined it up before the last staff was let go. I do not know if they have changed the date or not."
Did you inform Coach Orgeron that you were going to take some other visits? "Right now, I have not."
Do you really see yourself as committed to Ole Miss? "As of right now, I am committed."
Have you spoken to Coach Bianco since Coach Cutcliffe was let go? "I have not talked to him lately. I was going to call him the other day, but I forgot. I will be calling him soon though."
