The following information was revealed during our interview with Eric Sledge:

How did your season go this year? "We ended up one game short from the Class 6A State Championship."

Which position did you play this year? "I started at safety. I have been a defensive player for the last four years. I rotated every other series at wide receiver."

Which position do you feel like you are best suited to play on the next level? "Well, you know, the way we run our defense, we are the number one run stopper in the state. Our defense, it takes 11 players playing together to get the job done. On offense, it only takes one big time QB and WR. I feel I have more advantages at wide receiver. I am 6' 5", and I run a sub 4.5. There are not too many DB's who can handle that."

What do you consider to be your strengths on the field? "Well, my work ethic for one. I come after you every day. I have been playing ball since I could walk. I see a lot of great players in high school who just cruise when they get to college. I stay hungry. I want to be the best."

What do you need to work on? "My speed and route running. Playing wide receiver for my first year, I do not have a lot of experience with my routes, but I am working on it."

What were your stats for the year? "I had 80 tackles, 5 picks, and I brought back two of them for TD's. I also had 2 kick returns for TD's with a long of 95 yards. On offense, I caught 15 of the 17 passes that were thrown to me. I had 325 yards and 5 TD's."

Awards? "I made 1st Team All-Orange County and 1st Team All-Citrus Florida. There is some other stuff, but my coach has all of that."

Have you set up your official visits? "I went to West Virginia three weeks ago. I am going to Louisville on January 7th. I will go to either Ohio State or North Carolina State on January 14th, and I am going to Ole Miss on January 21st. I have not set it up yet, but I am probably going to Notre Dame on January 28th. I might switch the Notre Dame visit to January 21st and go to Ole Miss on the 28th. I still have to decide on that. I want to make sure and visit Ole Miss on the same date as my teammates, Quentin Taylor (LB) and Marvin Peoples (LB)."

Do you have a leader yet? "It is still pretty much wide open. It will come down to my playing time, and if I can see myself being there for the next 3 to 4 years."

Eric carries a 3.2 Core GPA and a 980 on the SAT.
