Rebel Recruiting news and notes
Ole Miss is hot and heavy after six prospects from Mississippi who are not currently committed.
They are Archie Sims (LB), Anthony Johnson (DB), Derek Pegues (dB), Travis Sanford (WR), John Jerry, and Jerrell Powe (DL).
Our sources feel that Ole Miss' inhome visit with Archie Sims last night went extremely well. We believe that the Rebels have now taken a lead over MSU for Archie's services. Sims will be taking an official visit with Ole Miss this weekend and has visited USM, West Virginia, and MSU.
Anthony Johnson was also visited by the Ole Miss staff last night, and word has it, that the Rebels are inching closer and closer to a commitment. Anthony, who is rated as the #26 overall CB in the country by scout.com, will take an official visit with USM this weekend. Johnson has visited Alabama, MSU, and Ole Miss. If things hold as they are, look for the Rebels to land Anthony come signing day.
Jerrell Powe received an inhome visit from Ole Miss last night as well, and we hear that Jerrell is seriously considering signing with Ole Miss come signing day. In fact, our sources seem to believe it is a better than 50/50 chance that Powe will be a Rebel. But there is a lot of time left, and he does visit the school he is currently committed to, LSU, this weekend.
The South Panola trio of Derek Pegues, Travis Sanford, and John Jerry will all be taking their visits to Ole Miss this weekend. Joining them in Oxford will be their teammate, Peria Jerry, who is currently committed to Ole Miss. While MSU has done a very good job with Derek as of late, in the end, we look for Derek to join his teammates at Ole Miss. We believe John Jerry and Travis Sanford will announce for Ole Miss shortly after they take their visits to Ole Miss this weekend. Will Derek Pegues make it a trifecta? We think so!
Much has been made about the commitment/decommitment of All-South member, Alonzo Horton (DE).
Obviously, the kid is confused, so we are not going to ask him for any comments at this time. What we do know is that Alonzo and Coach Frank Wilson have a long standing relationship. Coach "Frank", as he is widely known in the New Orleans area, is a father figure for Horton. Because of this relationship, we still believe Ole Miss is very much in the thick of it for Alonzo's services. We also hear that Coaches Orgeron and Wilson will be visiting Alonzo last. Will it be enough? No one knows for sure, but you sure do have to like Ole Miss' built in connections.
We have learned that Coaches Orgeron and Luke have been all over South Mississippi the last two days doing some junior recruiting. Coaches Orgeron and Luke are both on the coast today.
We hear that QB prospect, Chris Todd, will receive an inhome visit from Coach Orgeron tomorrow night.
Coach Lubick will be in Florida until this weekend. Gary Albury (CB), Matt Hardrick (OL) and Quentin Taylor (LB) will be receiving inhome visits from Coach Lubick throughout the week.
We are hearing big things from newly committed, Michael Hicks, out of Jacksonville, FL. We have been told by our sources that Michael is a NFL player right now. They think that highly of the kid.
