Not bad when one is having to share the running duties with one of Mississippi's best, Cordera Eason.

It is no wonder Davis is receiving the early pub that he is getting, and if last year was any indication, there is plenty more to come.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Derrick Davis:

What is your current height, weight, and forty time? "I am 6' 0", 215, and I run a 4.5 forty."

What do you bench, squat, and have you been measured in your vertical? "I bench 275, squat 575, and I have never been measured."

Which position are you being recruited for the next level? "Running back."

What do you do best at running back? "I am a straight forward runner. I do not juke and jive and all of that stuff. I just come right at you. My work ethic and just how I run the ball are my biggest strengths."

What are you working on to make yourself a better back? "Speed, just speed."

How long have you been starting for Meridian? "Last year was my first year. I ran behind Cordera Eason my sophomore year."

What did you rush for last season? "I had 1, 927 yards rushing and 24 Td's"

Any awards? "I was named 1st Team All-State (overall) and Class 5A. I also won our RB's award."

What are your expectations for your senior campaign? "Win the championship. That is all, just win it. I want to help us keep our offense rolling. We already have a stingy defense. I just hope to bring it (championship) back to Meridian. It has been a long time around here. Everybody is counting on us."

Have you set any numbers for your senior year? "I want to try and get 2,100 yards next year and probably 28 Td's and go undefeated."

Which colleges are currently recruiting you the hardest? "Ole Miss, Auburn, MSU, LSU, and Marshall."

Any early offers? "MSU, Auburn, and Ole Miss."

Been to any Junior Days? "No sir, but I am riding up to Ole Miss today (3/10/05) to stay for the weekend. I am going up there with Cordera Eason (RB) and Roshaad Byrd (LB)."

What is your interest in Ole Miss? "I like Ole Miss' coaching staff. Their coaching staff gives you a chance to get a fresh start. I will be on the same level as everyone else. If you do your job, you will play."

Who else has impressed you up to this point? "Texas A&M has really started recruiting me hard and Tennessee. I like them a lot too."

What do you like about Texas A&m? "I really do not know too much about them yet. They have just been sending me letters, and I have been doing some research on them. I like what I am reading."

What are Tennessee's positives? "I like their location over there."

Do you plan to attend any football camps this summer? "Yes sir, I am going to Ole Miss', Auburn's, and MSU's."

What are going to be the factors when it comes decision time? "Location, academics, and just their football team mainly."

What is your current academic status? "I have a 3.1 GPA and an 18 on the ACT."
