All Jonathan did was lead Class 5A in rushing with 2, 227 yards on a 9.2 yard per carry average and 20 TD's. This set a record for most yards rushed in a season by a Hattiesburg running back.

It is no wonder Kirksey is hearing from the likes of Tennessee, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, MSU, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Michigan State, Florida State, and Notre Dame.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Jonathan Kirksey:

How long have you been starting for Hattiesburg? "For two years."

What makes you such a good running back? "I have great vision."

What are you working on to make yourself a better player? "I am working on trying not to get to the outside to use my speed. I am trying to keep it in the middle and go more north and south. I want to become a more physical back."

What were your stats as a sophomore? "I had 1, 302 yards rushing and 10 TD's. I had 9 rushing TD's and 1 kickoff return."

Any awards? "I won the Earl Eatmon Award (goes each year to Hattiesburg's top running back)."

What about your junior campaign? "I had 227 carries for 2, 227 yards and 20 TD's. I set the record at Hattiesburg for most rushing yards in a season and in a game."

Which game? "Against Hancock. I ran for 376 yards."

Which schools are actively recruiting you? "All of the instate schools. LSU, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Michigan State. Coaches have called from Florida State, Notre Dame, Vandy, and Auburn too."

Which schools are showing the most interest? "Mostly Ole Miss, West Virginia, Auburn, and Tennessee."

Any early offers? "Not really, well, they tell me when they get all of my information in, they will be offering me, but nothing written on paper."

Which schools told you they might offer you after they review your files? "Ole Miss and West Virginia.. That is pretty much it."

Have you had a chance to visit some of the schools you are interested in? "I am going to LSU's Jr Day on Saturday. I have already been to Ole Miss' Jr Day. Auburn and LSU are holding their Jr Day on the same day. I want to go to both of theirs, but I can only go to one. So, I am going to go to LSU's Jr Day, but I am going to go to Auburn's practice next week too."

What did you learn about Ole Miss during your visit? "That it is really big, and they have a lot of football tradition."

What stood out the most about Ole Miss? "Probably that weight room facility."

What attracts you to LSU? "I am going to go down there and see what they have to offer. I do not know too much about them but what I see on TV. I want to see what kind of support they have for their players."

What is your interest in Auburn? "They seem to be able to help a lot of backs improve. I like that. They go in with skills and leave with even more skills. That is why they send so many players to the pros."

Who are some other schools that have caught your eye? "Lets see, basically all of the SEC teams and USM."

What are USM's positives? "Basically, I stay right around the corner from them. My mom works the concession stands for them. I grew up going to all of their games. I know everything about Southern Mississippi."

What is your interest in MSU? "I have not really heard too much from them. They called Coach Duke (Hattiesburg's coach) and asked about me. They have not been sending me any letters, but Coach Dukes said they are interested in me."

When you are trying to find that right school for you; what will you be looking for? "A school that will help me physically on the field and also help me get my degree."

What is your academic status? "I have a 2.8 GPA, and the highest I have made on the ACT test is 16, but I am retaking it again in April."

Where do you plan to camp at this summer? "I am going to the Nike Camp (Oxford, MS), Ole Miss' Sr Camp, and hopefully the Addidas Camp (Knoxville, TN)."
