The following information was revealed during our interview with Jared Koon:

What is your current height and weight? "I am 6' 4 1/2", 210."

Which position are you being recruited for on the next level? "Pitcher."

Which side do you throw from? "From the right."

What does your fastball top out at and what do you average? "I have touched 95 a couple of times this year. I am usually in the 87-89 range."

What are your strengths on the mound? "I am use to winning. I hate to lose. I am real competitive. I have a real bulldog mentality. I throw strikes and let my defense do their thing."

What are you working on to make yourself a more complete pitcher? "I am working on mixing in a change up so I can have a strong third pitch. I am real confident with my fastball and curveball, but I need to work on that third pitch. Once I get in the weight room, it should help get a couple of more MPH on my fastball."

You played at Tupelo in high school? "Yes sir, we had a good team."

What was your record at Tupelo? "Well, I was more of a basketball player than anything. I really did not start taking baseball real serious until lately. I played short stop my sophomore year. We made it to the North Half finals. My junior year, I started pitching and pitched number one because Will Klien (Ole Miss pitcher) was hurt. My senior year, I was 4-2. I lost to Olive Branch in a real close game, and I lost to Petal. Both were close games. They were just great teams. I won our Cy Young Award my senior year. I was also All-Area for two years in a row in both baseball and basketball. I played in the Cross Road All-Star game this past summer."

And this is your freshman season at ICC? "Yes sir."

What are your stats for the year? "I am 8-1 with a (1.87) ERA. But really, I try to not check my stats because it is bad luck, so I am not sure about the K's and walks."

Which schools are currently recruiting you? "Ole Miss and MSU. I get calls from Tennessee, USM, and Memphis too."

You plan to sign in the Spring? "Yes sir, we are still having to finalize all of the offers. My mom wants to make sure I get the best offer I can get."

Which school has given you the most scholarship money? "I am suppose to hear from MSU on Friday and they are going to tell me what their offers is. It is between Ole Miss and MSU because I want to stay close to home. USM and Tennessee told me that I have an offer if I choose to get away from home, but I pretty much want to stay around here."

Have you taken your visits to Ole Miss and MSU? "We are going to Ole Miss on Sunday. My mother and dad want to sit down with Coach Bianco and meet him in person. Coach McDonnell is going to take me around the campus and show me the facilities while they are talking. I have a game on Saturday, so I will not be able to go to MSU, but my mom might go down there on Saturday and meet with Coach Polk."

What are Ole Miss' positives? "I love the City of Oxford. I always have a blast everytime I go to Oxford. I go to a lot of their football games and I just love the Grove and everything about it. I have a bunch of friends at Ole Miss too. My teammates at Tupelo, Jon Jon Hancock and Will Klien, play for Ole Miss. Will and John being there makes it more appealing. I have been best friends with Jon Jon since we were 10 years old. I have been going to Church and playing ball with Jon Jon since we were kids. I have been up to Oxford for the past few weekends. Another thing that is real attractive is the chance to get in the rotation next year. Everytime I talk to Coaches McDonnell and Bianco, they put that in my head. They tell me I have a chance to be a weekend starter next year. That is very attractive for me."

What is attractive about MSU? "I grew up being a MSU fan. A couple of my family members are big MSU fans. Both schools have a good atmosphere. It is going to come down to who gives me the best offer. I have friends on both teams. It is going to be a financial decision because it is pretty big for my family. Another thing that Ole Miss has is a good premed program, and that is what I want to major in. They could probably help me out the most in that area, but it is still going to come down to the scholarship offer."

What if they both offer you the same percentage of scholarship money? "It would be a real tough decision. I really do not know right now. I will just have to do a lot of praying."

What is your current academic status? "I have a 4.0 GPA here at ICC, and I graduated with a 4.0 GPA and a 27 in high school. I graduated 9th in my class."
